The police have arrested what appear to be peaceful republican protesters in Trafalgar Square. It’s in everybody’s interests, especially the Met’s, that they explain exactly why as soon as possible. No matter what you think about monarchy, this is a deeply disturbing moment.

There's not being a fan of the Royals (an understandable position), then there's actively celebrating the death of an elderly woman. The second one makes you a very unsavoury person. She was an icon. Undeniably. And as someone who isn’t a royalist, I for one will mourn her loss.

When I was writing my article last week, I was told those selected for testing - rather than isolation - were chosen at random. We're meant to believe Boris and Rishi were both "randomly" chosen. They think we're idiots.

The reason Matt Hancock should resign is that he is a terrible Health Secretary, not because of his private life. From the PPE scandal, the crisis in our care service and the unbelievably poor test and trace system, he has utterly failed.
