Twitch is emailing creators, suggesting they remove prerolls from their streams to create a 'stronger first impression'. Incredible comedic timing, as just yesterday Twitch CPO Mikey Minty said in an interview that prerolls aren't as detrimental as they are perceived.

Twitch's CPO, Mikey Minty, suggests Preroll Ads may actually be a better option for some creators, as the perceived negatives are overstated. "Even though community feedback on this point is consistently loud, we look at it from the perspective of retention and engagement. Most people, even if they complain about a preroll, will watch it, stay, and engage with the channel. The data on what people actually do, versus what they complain about, is not the same."

I’ve been a content creator on Twitch for over 5 years and no matter what I do super niched down or variety I’ve NEVER consistently hit 30 average viewers. I’ve always been told I “have what it takes,” but honestly… I don’t know anymore. Is it me? The algorithm? A mix of both?

Hi everyone. We’d like to address the recent discussion around the AI video contest, and first of all, we’re sorry for upsetting players with this event. We’re also sorry that we didn’t communicate with everyone clearly enough before the event started. Our original goal was to lower the barrier to creation. In past contests, we saw players with great ideas and scripts who couldn’t fully bring them to life because they weren’t familiar with tools like editing, modeling, or animation software. We hoped AI could be a more accessible tool that lets more people take part. That said, we understand the concerns around AI content. We are not trying to dismiss handmade work or disrespect creators. To us, AI is just another tool. What we truly care about is the idea, the expression, and the final work. We’d like to leave the next step up to the community. Please vote on what we should do: 1. Cancel the AI video contest 2. Change it into a non-AI creation contest 3. A note on our work to combat viewbotting, from CEO Dan Clancy: There’s been a lot of discussion recently about viewbotting on Twitch, and I wanted to share an update on our enforcement efforts. Viewbotting is bad for our business. We don't benefit from it, and we believe it harms the creator ecosystem overall. However, effectively combatting viewbotting is challenging. As we deploy updates to our real-time detection algorithms, viewbotting companies quickly respond with updates to avoid detection. Also, our detection systems must be precise to ensure that legitimate viewers are appropriately counted. Today, we’re introducing a new enforcement type that we plan to roll out over the next few weeks. For channels identified as persistently viewbotting, we will apply a cap to the streamer’s CCV for a fixed period of time, on all of the Twitch surfaces. The cap will be based upon historical data regarding that creator’s non-viewbotted traffic. Repeated violations will result in longer penalties. Streamers will be notified when an enforcement is applied, along with the duration of the penalty, and can appeal through the appeals portal. While streamers will be notified, we will not make a follow-on announcement when we begin issuing these enforcements, and will not publicly share details about when and where these enforcements are applied. Unfortunately, providing details simply makes it easier for companies to work around our interventions. We believe this approach will help us make meaningful progress against viewbotting. We will continue refining our systems and expand when we apply these enforcements over time. - Dan Clancy

The channels consisted of livestream VODs and free courses created by me to help empower young men to be the best versions of themselves. Me and my team worked hard to ensure we followed YouTube's TOS very strictly, blurring out all inapproriate language and sensitive topics. It's still a mind-boggling statistic that staying in content creation and streaming for over a decade is simply unheard of, especially when it's not the full-time bill-paying career others have been blessed with. -Almost 60% of creators quit entirely after 1 month. -Almost 79% of creators quit after 1yr. -Almost 90% of creators quit after 2yrs. -A decade? Almost 99%. It takes a tremendous amount of sacrifice, grit, and tenacity to put (for some) a third of someone's life directly into creating live and prerecorded content for others across the globe to enjoy on a literal generational run.

I've been streaming on Twitch now for over 12 years and I can honestly say that seeing thousands of people come and go over that time is the hardest part. So many people who used to be in chat that I will probably never see there again. Streamers genuinely miss old viewers
