Elections as we know it are about to change. The #ElectionsBill will make photo ID compulsory to vote. Millions of people don't have photo ID! If this goes ahead they will be locked out of democracy. Join us #HandsOffOurVote Watch, sign up & share šŸ‘‰ handsoffourvote.org

Dr Sam Power giving evidence to the Levelling Up Select Committee about #VoterID last week. With all the things the government could be spending money on, deciding to spend millions of pounds on making it harder to vote is simply mismanagement

It is no longer realistic to introduce #VoterID in May 2023. That’s the message in a letter sent today by @AEA_ChiefExec Peter Stanyon to new Secretary of State for Levelling Up, The Rt Hon Greg Clark. Read our release and the full letter at: bit.ly/AEAVoterIDJuly22 #ElectionsAct

Who spotted Orla’s electoral identity card on this week’s #DerryGirls? Voter ID has been in place in Northern Ireland since 1985 and was recently introduced to the UK through the Elections Act earlier this year. 🧵1/3

3.5 million people who don’t have ID in the UK will either have to apply for one of these cards or get turned away from the polling station in future UK elections. A two tier system of voters will be created: ID owners who can easily vote and everyone else who will face barriers

Northern Ireland was experiencing hundreds of cases of voter fraud. Some measure to protect elections was necessary. The UK has had 3 convictions since 2017. There is no reasonable cause to introduce voter ID. It will only make voting harder and isolate people from democracy.

What's this?šŸ‘€A new party political broadcast from the far right? The far right don't want you to vote because they win when political apathy is high. šŸ“¢So if you don't fancy sending everyone back to where they came from, VOTE ON 5TH MAY. #LocalElections2022 @eddiemarsan

The #ElectionsBill, passed last night, will allow older people to use bus passes and 60 Oyster cards as valid forms of ID - but young people’s railcards, and student Oyster cards will not be permitted bigissue.com/news/politics/n… @HandsOffOurVote @UnlockDemocracy @electoralreform

Today is the LAST CHANCE for MPs to vote to stop voter ID🧵 Voter ID: āŒ Disenfranchises the ~3.5m~ people who have no access to ID. These people are mostly from marginalised communities. āŒ BAME, working class, LGBTQ and disabled voters are at risk of disenfranchisement. ā¬‡ļø

āŒ The Government’s ā€˜free voter card’ scheme is an expensive solution to a problem that there is no cause to address. Costs: Ā£180m over 10 years and Ā£20m per election and will create a 'two tier system’ of voters with costs, admin waiting for some and easy voting for others. ā¬‡ļø
