Google Fitbit Air arrived today. Current lineup: Garmin Fenix 8 WHOOP MG Oura Ring 5 Google Fitbit Air Do I need four wearables? No. Am I keeping all four forever? Also no. My WHOOP subscription is up in November, and unless it really changes my mind, that is probably the first one gone. But I train a lot, I like digging into the data, and I’m curious how each device handles the stuff I actually care about: Sleep HRV/resting HR trends Workout HR Recovery/readiness Training load Comfort Battery App experience Useful metrics vs. just more numbers to stare at The more I read, the less I think there is one ā€œbestā€ wearable. Seems like every device is really good at some things and pretty questionable at others. So I’m going to wear them, compare the data, compare the experience, and share what I learn.

Just turned 30 and I’m choosing to believe I have not even entered my prime yet
I feel bad for people who think turning 40 is old. I'm 46 and I feel like I'm just getting started.

The fire alarm in my house went off 3 times last night. Annoying, but also a pretty good accidental sleep tracker test because I woke up all 3 times. Awake time: - Garmin: 26 min - Whoop: 29 min - Oura: 72 min Oura was definitely the closest to what actually happened. One night does not settle the whole debate, but for awake time, this was not close.

My VO2 max dropped a point as soon as it got hot and humid. Good summer reminder: Same pace can be a very different effort. Same effort can be a very different pace. You probably did not lose fitness overnight. The conditions changed. And yes, wearable VO2 max is an estimate, not a lab test. Useful as a trend. Not a reason to spiral.

Before anyone asks… No I would not do this with the Strava IPO. I love my future wife too much.

Considering putting 100% of my engagement ring fund into SpaceX today so I can buy her a much nicer engagement ring later. Is this irresponsible or thoughtful?

People are very bad at easy running. Went for a walk after work with my girlfriend and my sister. Beautiful night. Every runner who passed looked like they were 400m from the finish line of a 5K. Relax. You are allowed to run slower than your ego wants.
