I was supposed to leave Rise in Integrity….but that was not something I was going to do. I stuffed that little guy in a dry bag we had in our survival kit and hooked the bag onto my pressure suit.

So, having a late spring break is hard, but this year it meant that I got to spend my whole break geeking out, watching this truly inspirational team capture the hearts of the world. It was exactly what I needed. I laughed, I smiled, I cried, I sat in wonder. It was beautiful!

Yes - there's nowhere for the heat to go. So we coldsoak the vehicle before reentry and wear temp-controlled spacesuits. That gives us lots of time before it gets too hot inside - by then we're through and down into the cool upper atmosphere. Like jumping through a ring of fire.

One 93-year-old “Space Grandma” traveled from Oklahoma to witness her grandsons’ work on the Orion spacecraft.
