I want to say this clearly. In Ukraine, almost everyone understands Russian. Not everyone fully understands Ukrainian. That is the reality created by decades of history, policy, and forced Russification. I recently had a woman from Canada shout at me for speaking Russian during a space. I was translating for a Ukrainian soldier who only speaks Russian. He told her himself: “I am a Ukrainian soldier. I only speak Russian.” Around 60 percent of the soldiers we train speak Ukrainian. Many do not. I wish every Ukrainian spoke Ukrainian. Many Ukrainians wish the same. But language does not determine loyalty, courage, or sacrifice. This country was forced for decades to operate in Russian. That did not change people’s identity. These men and women are Ukrainian. They are fighting, bleeding, and dying for Ukraine, regardless of the language they speak. Please understand that reality before passing judgment. God bless all of you🥰
