Witnessing daily violations committed against Syrian refugees, you cannot but laugh at the irony that Malcolm X is a celebrated symbol by Islamist Turks.

Arabs are fine as long as they are paying customers, investors, or potential scam victims. Hijab is always welcomed when you are strolling down "Les Champs-Élysées". Qatari Petrodollars are always appreciated if they are to be injected into your local ecosystem. That's about it.

Fighting over the scraps of racist candidates and votes! This honestly resumes the politics of today.

Let's stop dubbing the Turkish political class racism as nationalism! Let's call it what it is since human lives are at stake! At least this is what we should naturally expect from "liberal democrats."

It is also worrying to witness our friends in opposition silence in all of that. Not a single attempt to temper down the racist tone! On the contrary, you could almost hear their justifications. Nevermind, it is someone other than them who is asked to be the scapegoat.

Who is the next after the Syrians? The list of the "others" and "differents" could be very long.

I believed that Assad's arrogance would prevent him from participating in the Arab League summit without official courtship at a higher level of diplomacy. I was mistaken, the Saudi FM visit was enough.

I believed that Assad's (or more precisely Syria) desperate need for Arab re-engagement in the country economy would compel him to adopt a more reconciliatory tone. I was also mistaken. He maintained his accusations of treachery against Arab leaders.

Despite my mistaken assumptions, Assad keeps refusing to change. He is still the same arrogant, shameless, presumptuous person we all know.

For over a year, we have patiently accepted our liberal friends to ignore the Turkish opposition anti-refugees xenophobic electoral promises. This supposedly "harmless" rhetoric is only to win over the nationalists votes, they claimed! Result? They are losing the elections.

Their response? Double down on the anti-refugees sentiments! Make up more lies! Shamelessly court the far right votes! Complete disregard to innocent lives to garnish a few votes to lose the next round again.

Shame on you! Shame on your silent partners in crime! No political victory is worth the moral bankruptcy you are going through.

Beytullah, may Allah grant the greatest honors in the paradise, was remarkably one of the kindest soles I had the pleasure of meeting. Polite, hardworking and patient. My deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to my brother @GalipDalay for his and our loss.
It's with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beytullah Dalay, a beloved member of Al Sharq Forum Family, in the recent earthquake. Our prayers & thoughts are with his family and his brother, our former esteemed research director, @GalipDalay, during this difficult time.

My latest with the New Arab « The second anniversary of port’s explosion should be a reminder of the necessity to build a truly counter-hegemonic project rooted in the country’s working classes and in coalition with independent social forces. »english.alaraby.co.uk/opinio…

When you are polically broke with no concrete policies or plans, you engage in mythical politics. Exploiting people's fears and doubts in creating an imaginative foreign threat. It is even easier/immoral when you target a seemingly defenseless group of ppl.

I refuse to believe that people are inherently racists! The majority of refugee hosting communities are generous, sympathetic, and honest. They are being tricked into thinking that immigration is the source of their misery.

Their sense of betrayal would be great when they realise the trichery they have been subjected to. Their reaction towards the immoral political class will be ruthless! It is just a matter of time before the myth and mirage disappear and the ugly truth is revealed!
