tl;dr: across development, neural activity often follows unpredictable (and non-linear) trajectories. Studying these non-linear dynamics is indispensable for understanding how the brain is build & the focus of dev systems neuro.

When preparing to move from my postdoc to faculty position, @eLife was the most logical choice for publishing our work.
I strongly recommend this journal to scientists at all career stages.
