New paper 🚨
tl;dr: across development, neural activity often follows unpredictable (and non-linear) trajectories. Studying these non-linear dynamics is indispensable for understanding how the brain is build & the focus of dev systems neuro.
Just published the first paper - a ViewPoint article in @SfNJournals JNeuro with @Meikeesther1. We have a more thorough summary over on 🟦sky, but thought I'd put it here oo - in case there's any stragglers still on X

On this day 2 years ago, I was heading out on my first job interview (at my current institution)! I was so freaking nervous. To those setting out on that journey this month, have confidence!
You made it this far.
You are a rockstar.
Now show them how bright you shine!
Ever joined a new lab and felt that not knowing where/what stuff is was holding your research back? Yeah, same.
Kudos to Kage & Taylor from our lab for a beautiful piece in @TrendsBiochem highlighting how lab inventory systems support independence.

Huda Zoghbi says that mentorship enables her to multiply the impact of her science 100x over. The HHMI Investigator at @bcmhouston hopes this ripple effect is felt in the future of treatment & prevention of diseases like #Rett syndrome and #Alzheimer’s. hhmi.news/3C5xXuQ
How do genes and environment shape psychiatric conditions? 🧬
A new lab at @FralinBiomed is looking into the genetic & environmental factors behind conditions like schizophrenia & autism, using advanced tech to study cellular & molecular neurodevelopment.

UPDATE: U.S. Airlines are now required to refund you for a canceled flight automatically.
Domestic flights delayed by 3 hours or more and international flights delayed by 6 hours or more also qualify for a full refund.
New: Airlines in the US are now *required* to give you a REFUND for a canceled or significantly delayed flight, automatically.
The DOT's "automatic refund provision" went into effect today. Good news for travelers with a month until the holiday rush begins.
One of the negative experiences of my training as a scientist was being judged for being interested in fashion and art. Why is caring about aesthetics considered orthogonal to pursuing science?
“The publication process was fast and efficient. But more importantly, we were given the time necessary for the generation of high-quality data during the review process.”

ALT eLife's model would be especially beneficial in this situation where i was limited in the follow up experiments i could execute, meike van der heijden, virginia tech carilion
When preparing to move from my postdoc to faculty position, @eLife was the most logical choice for publishing our work.
I strongly recommend this journal to scientists at all career stages.
Meike was preparing to move institutions and realised if a journal requested significant revisions to her new paper, she might struggle.
Having chosen us for the flexibility on offer, she recounts her experience of the whole publishing process at eLife.

Shout out to all nursing parents who have (had) to make the impossible choice to pump & dump or figure out the logistics of traveling with milk to/from a scientific meeting.
I see you. You’re amazing.
