Asia has a BILLION children, literally. And all of them are being encouraged by teachers and parents to read more books!
I'm in Singapore at an international meeting of authors who write books for young people.
Up to now, the children's literature industry worldwide has always been dominated by publishers and books from the west. But a western publisher here (at the Asian Children's Content Festival) told me that Chinese publishers now have huge print runs.
Also, while adults around the world have switched from books to screens, the children's sector still prefers real books, thank goodness.
