One neat optimization trick I learned while working on the foliage extension: instead of instancing every grass patch separately, you can bundle several of them into a chunk and instance the whole thing.
Especially useful for large worlds.

Now I can focus on the next part, which is randomizing enemy encounters when starting a new battle scene.
