It looks like using the back roll adds a lot of speed.
2.33 vs 2.71
This is done by tapping left, doing roll, and canceling into a right facing dash short hop.
It's certainly a lot harder to do consistently so I probably won't go for it the whole run.

Getting a bit further with it now. I've changed the movement I use so much during this, but it looks like dash short hops might be fastest.
The final part in the video with the two aerial enemies is definitely my favorite section so far
