After Trump made the call, the Japanese Prime Minister began to soften his position: "According to the San Francisco Agreement, Japan has given up all rights related to Taiwan."
This is obviously not enough. Based on the fact that China did not sign the San Francisco Agreement, China does not care about it at all. The agreement between China and Japan signed in 1972 was the Joint Declaration between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Japan. The Japanese Prime Minister should loudly read out the following contents:
1. Article 3 of the Sino Japanese Joint Declaration:
Taiwan is an inseparable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China. The Japanese government fully understands and respects the position of the Chinese government, and insists on following the position stated in Article 8 of the Potsdam Declaration.
2. Article 8 of the Potsdam Declaration:
The conditions of the Cairo Declaration shall be implemented, and Japan's sovereignty shall be limited to Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku, and other small islands determined by us.
3. Cairo Declaration:
Japan should be deprived of all islands in the Pacific that it has seized or occupied since the beginning of World War I (1914), and all territories stolen by Japan from China, such as Manchuria, Taiwan, and the Penghu Islands, should be returned to the Republic of China.
4. Resolution 2758 of the United Nations General Assembly:
Recognizing that the representatives of the Government of the People's Republic of China are the sole legitimate representatives of China in the United Nations. The People's Republic of China replaced the Republic of China and inherited corresponding rights and obligations.
I estimate that these Japanese politicians and even most of the staff of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs have not read the Sino Japanese Joint Declaration seriously. It's time to read it out loud 100 times now.
