In partnership with host Material Institute (2120 Port St, New Orleans, LA), Highlander Center presents a free screening of "A Place of Rage" Feb. 9 at 6:30pm CT
After the screening, @TheBlackLayers and @edenhakimzadeh will facilitate a conversation with attendees.
"A Place of Rage" is an exuberant award-winning documentary film by Pratibha Parmar which made its debut in 1991, yet its content is still one of the richest and most cherished, including rare interviews with Angela Davis, June Jordan and Alice Walker.
A celebration of the contributions of prominent African American women, the film features the context of civil rights, Black power, lesbian and gay rights and the feminist movement, with the trio reassessing how women revolutionized American society and the world.
In the Southern U.S., @HighlanderCtr is forging partnerships among organizers, #faith communities, and theologians to defend and advance #LGBTQ protections.

Borrowing its title from the author's 2000 memoir, OUT OF PLACE traces the life and work of Edward Said (1935-2003), the Palestinian-born intellectual who wrote widely on history, literature, music, philosophy and politics.
OUT OF PLACE is thus both a fascinating biographical film on one of the most acclaimed cultural critics of the postwar world as well as an engaging examination of many of the cultural and political issues to which he devoted his life.
