📍My country has reached an important milestone in the 2026 World Press Freedom Index, emerging from the blacklist for the first time in decades and recording a remarkable rise of 36 places – the largest year‑on‑year improvement by any state since the index was created 25 years ago.
📍Syria now stands 141st globally, compared with 177th in 2025 and 179th in 2024, and ranks eighth in the Arab world. Although Syria remains in the “red zone” in terms of security conditions, there is now a credible prospect of breaking into the top 100 – a standing that would better reflect the aspirations of the Syrian people.
