Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional collaboration on ocean governance and maritime security as we hosted a high-level delegation from Tanzania’s National Defence College. In welcoming the delegation led by Wilbert Augustin Ibuge, I emphasised that safeguarding Africa’s marine resources is central to our stability, economic growth, and sovereignty. I highlighted the critical role of Ghana’s fisheries and aquaculture sector, which supports over three million livelihoods and remains a key source of protein, while also driving jobs and economic resilience. I further noted our deliberate shift towards a structured blue economy framework, supported by policy reforms, stronger institutions, and coordinated national action to unlock sustainable growth. We held productive discussions on sustainable fisheries governance, maritime security, and the fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, alongside emerging opportunities in offshore energy, marine transport, and coastal tourism. Both sides agreed on the need for stronger regional cooperation, recognising that our waters are interconnected, and expressed optimism that this engagement will translate into practical outcomes for Africa’s shared ocean future.

Earlier today I summoned the Acting South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Thando Dalamba. At the meeting, I conveyed the Government of Ghana’s strong condemnation of the continuous xenophobic attacks on Ghanaians and other Africans living in South Africa. We are urging South African authorities to take decisive action in protecting the human rights and dignity of our nationals and all Africans. Ghana equally expects that the promised investigations be expedited and all perpetrators punished to serve as adequate deterrence. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will communicate other steps we have taken in due course.

I joined His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama at a state banquet held in honour of His Excellency Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, as part of his historic visit to Ghana. The relationship between Ghana and Zimbabwe is grounded in a common desire for liberation and a commitment to African unity. Our friendship has been shaped by the ideals of anti-imperialism and Pan-African solidarity championed by pioneers such as Kwame Nkrumah. The ties between our two nations continue to evolve with a renewed focus on deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation. It was a distinct honour to host President Mnangagwa and his delegation as we work to further consolidate this partnership in the spirit of progress and continental unity.

A beautiful Pan-African welcome for President of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa on the first State Visit by a President of Zimbabwe since diplomatic relations were established 46 years ago. A really great joy to host our in-laws. Mama Sally Mugabe would be proud — God bless her soul. Long live our elevated Ghana 🇬🇭 Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 relations.

It was a profound honour to be hosted by my brother, President John Mahama, for a State Banquet in the beautiful city of Accra. This visit is a powerful testament to the Second Republic’s unwavering commitment to the engagement and re-engagement agenda, as we seek to broaden our strategic partnerships across our great continent. Ghana and Zimbabwe share more than just history; we share a common destiny. As I noted during the banquet, our mission is to transform these deep-rooted historical ties into tangible economic benefits for our people. By deepening our cooperation in trade, investment, and industrialisation, we are ensuring that the wealth of Africa benefits Africans first. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is our roadmap to this future. Together with Ghana, we are determined to unlock new value chains and build resilient societies that can withstand global shocks. We are no longer just telling our story; we are actively shaping a prosperous, sovereign destiny. Zimbabwe remains open for business, and our partnership with Ghana is a vital pillar in building the Africa we want.

There is something profoundly reassuring about the friendship between Ghana and Zimbabwe. It has endured the test of time, it has adapted to changing circumstances, and remains anchored in the mutual respect and trust that exist between us. We celebrated that friendship when I hosted President Emmerson Mnangagwa to a state banquet last night. #GhanaZimbabwe

At the 95th Anniversary Speech and Prize-Giving Day of Accra Academy, the Special Prosecutor—an alumnus of the institution—delivered a keynote address on the theme: “Education as the Catalyst for Preserving Heritage, Driving Innovation, and Empowering Future Leadership.” He underscored the urgent need for an education system that not only imparts knowledge but also preserves cultural identity, drives innovation, and produces principled leadership—warning that societies that lose their identity risk undermining their progress and future.
