My team and I had a series of productive technical discussions with OECD Public Governance Directorate experts, led by Mr. Janos Bertok, Deputy Director, and Ms. Tatyana Teplova, Head of Division, Global Partnerships, Inclusion and Justice. We exchanged views on @APRMorg and @OECD priorities, and identified common areas where our organizations’ comparative advantages can be leveraged. We also engaged with other Directorates to advance collaboration on development cooperation, finance for development, and South-South triangular cooperation for governance reforms across the continent.

It was a pleasure meeting Ms. Holy Ranaivozanany, Deputy Executive Director of the Africa-Europe Foundation (@AfricaEuropeFdn, and her team. We reflected on the Governance Support Programme and flagship initiatives including the Africa Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA) and the Africa Governance Report 2027 (AGR). This engagement will deepen @APRMorg -AEF collaboration for mutual benefit.

I rounded off my Brussels engagements with a meeting at the European External Action Service, (@eu_eeas) I was hosted by Ms. Cristina Villanueva Moreno, Political Officer for Pan-African Affairs, Peace and Security, and her colleagues. We reflected on @APRMorg’s Governance Support Programme and its development to close the gap between governance review recommendations and implementation. Prof. Themba Maseko, @Wits_WSG, delivered the welcome address. Prof. Sifiso Ndlovu, UNISA & Mr. Ntsikayohlanga Mzananda then led an intergenerational dialogue on youth activism’s legacy & its impact on governance. “Youth activism is not history. It is governance in motion.”

The 1st meeting of the Task Force on the Review of the @APRMorg Legal Instruments took place in Centurion, South Africa. #Burundi was represented by Mrs Léonie Ndihokubwayo, Senior Counselor at @burundinaddis contributing to discussions on enhancing the APRM legal framework.

Ahead of the 5th Continental Dialogue on #YPS & #WPS, H.E. @APrm_MarieRose, CEO of @APRMorg, received Ms. @Lkarikumutima, Focal Point for Youth & Women Agendas at the Embassy of #Burundi in Addis Ababa, for preparatory discussions and a working visit in Centurion, South Africa.

I kicked off the Europe engagements with a lunch meeting in Berlin, Germany, between @APRMorg and @KAS_PolDiSSA. Joining Dr. Holger Dix, Director of the Regional Program Political Dialogue Sub-Saharan Africa at @KAS_SouthAfrica, were his German-based colleagues: Dr. Stefan Friedrich, Head of KAS Sub-Saharan Africa Region, and Mr. Henri Bohnet, Policy Advisor. KAS commended APRM on successfully undertaking the political parties dialogue and other KAS-funded activities earlier, and wanted to learn more about key flagship initiatives in APRM. The meeting ended with the parties agreeing to identify ways of collaborating to advance the implementation of the country review report’s recommendations. In line with delivering the Strategic Plan 2025-2028 with tangible results, APRM is transitioning from mere governance diagnosis in Africa to the implementation of recommendations from Government Reviews through the governance support programme.

I met with German Federal Foreign Office representatives Ms. Eva Dombo and Mr. Johannes Hoeber, who outlined the German-African Partnership, UN reform, and shared priorities on governance, conflict prevention, and a rules-based multilateral order. We also reviewed @APRMorg’s Strategic Shift and Governance Support Program, its peace and security role complementing the AU PSC, and ongoing work on SDG/Agenda 2063 reporting and @KAS_PolDiSSA’s collaboration on political party dialogues. The discussions opened channels for future engagement to identify specific areas of mutual collaboration.

Last week @APRMorg APRM CEO @APRM_MarieRose received a delegation from the @AU_WGYD The meeting focused on strengthening & harmonizing reporting on youth development, with particular attention to the African Youth Charter & the Africa Governance Report 2027.

My team and I had the privilege of touring the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung headquarters in Berlin with Mr. Henri Bohnet, Policy Advisor for Africa – Sub-Saharan Africa. Great exchange on governance and democracy. @KAS_PolDiSSA’s commitment to political participation strongly aligns with @APRMorg’s mandate, and I’m confident our partnership will keep advancing democratic leadership across Africa. #APRM

I concluded my meetings in Berlin with two crucial engagements: first with Markus Koob MP, Member of the German Bundestag, and second with Mr. Ronald Meyer, Division Head: African Policy & African Union at BMZ, and his team. During both engagements, we discussed key governance strides, opportunities, and challenges across the African continent. I articulated @APRMorg’s strategic position at the nexus of governance, peace, and development. We also highlighted APRM’s newly innovated Governance Support Programme, designed to translate governance review recommendations in African Member States into tangible results and impact for citizens – especially women and youth – in line with Agenda 2063 and the SDGs. #APRM #Governance #Agenda2063 #SDGs
