Using #climate data from 1961-1990, their results arose from the period of days each year when temperatures rose above what was historically normal for a given location during the warmest part of the year, according to the @UBC study. Summer temperatures in Sydney, Australia, now last about 130 days, up considerably from 80 days in 1990. That added an average of 15 days per decade. @UBCGeog

Tornado watch now in effect for southeastern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg and Brandon. From @environmentca: Thunderstorms are expected to initiate around 4-5 p.m. local time over southwestern Manitoba and extreme southeastern Saskatchewan, with the initial storms being discrete before growing into a large, linear thunderstorm complex that will race eastward across southern Manitoba this evening. Discrete thunderstorm development is also possible later this afternoon over the Red River Valley.
