Wetlands play a quiet but powerful role in the #climate, storing carbon over long periods of time. However, when these landscapes are disturbed, that carbon can be released back into the atmosphere. #QueensU researcher Ian Strachan leads the Atmospheric and Environmental Research Lab, where his team studies these changes through fieldwork in wetlands across Canada. Working with undergraduate and graduate student researchers, they are contributing to a growing understanding of how wetlands respond to disturbance and helping inform how they are restored and managed. ➡️ Learn more: queensu.ca/gazette/stories/s… #EarthDay 🌎| #EarthDay2026 | #ClimateAction

An inspiring visit with students in Queen’s Indigenous Teacher Education Program in Akwesasne. Had the chance to sit down, listen, and speak with future educators training in a program rooted in Indigenous perspectives, community, and real classroom experience. Through initiatives like this, we're building a stronger education workforce that will equip children to fulfill their potential and thrive in their future careers.

Strong leadership in the operating room goes beyond technical skill. New research co-authored by #QueensU expert Julian Barling shows that the best patient outcomes happen when surgeons balance clear direction with open communication and trust, especially when procedures become complex. The findings reveal that teams who feel safe speaking up can catch problems earlier and potentially prevent serious complications. ➡️ Learn more: queensu.ca/gazette/stories/w…

How can we find exploding stars and black holes across the universe? These extreme events produce neutrinos, elusive particles that travel vast distances through space and matter without being deflected or absorbed. #QueensU researchers are part of a global effort to build a deep-sea neutrino detector off Vancouver Island. The Pacific Ocean Neutrino Experiment will use an array of sensors to detect faint flashes of light produced when neutrinos interact with water molecules. By capturing these rare signals, scientists can trace neutrinos back to their origins and map some of the most extreme events in the universe. ➡️ Read more: queensu.ca/gazette/stories/d… @McDonaldInst | @Ocean_Networks
