The U.S. imports about 90% of its seafood, with much of it coming from countries such as China, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. A significant share is also sent abroad for processing before returning to our dinner plates, highlighting gaps in domestic seafood infrastructure and supply chains.
These challenges point to a clear opportunity to responsibly grow domestic seafood production and strengthen U.S. food security through open ocean
#aquaculture. Expanding fish farming in U.S. federal waters will strengthen supply chains, support working waterfronts, and increase year-round seafood production.
