The norm against the use of force to settle international disputes is an important achievement. But if every international lawyer's reaction to scenes such as this is to sourly lecture people to not be happy about scenes such as this, international law will be held in contempt.
Crowds are seen gathering in the streets of Isfahan, Iran following the news of the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during joint U.S./Israeli strikes earlier today. The crowds appear to be jovial.

We are all governed by our algorithms. Mine is dominated by animals, Iran, Gaza, Donald Trump and Cole Palmer. You’d be confused by my feed. Especially the Cole Palmer Plantagenet haircut memes. However, many have missed the IRGC in Iran boasting of their two day murdering spree in January killing 95,000 innocent Iranians (their numbers, not mine), simply for protesting. We have shared why this happened. We have shared that it is still happening. We have shared that students across Iran - incredibly and bravely - are still protesting. Right now. Despite the threat of a bullet to the head. Yet - in addition to missing it - they do everything to deny it. They say nothing about the mass extermination but all of a sudden say “NO to war in Iran.” Without any knowledge of the plight of the people of Iran over the last 47 years. Without any understanding that Iranians have attempted liberation many times and failed because there was never a level playing field. Bare hands Vs military grade weapons usually leads to thousands dead and an evil regime still in power. The people of Iran DO NOT want war. They want the machinery of repression to be stopped. And in the case of the IRGC, forcibly stopped. Because their crimes against humanity will not stop if no one stops them. It will continue, regardless of any ‘deal’ negotiated with the US administration. This is not Saddam Hussein 2003. Iran does not have nukes that could reach us in 45 minutes. There will be NO regional war. This is a lie the regime has put out (lapped up by so called “progressives”) as they beg to stay in power. No one is coming to save them. And they know it. The message is: No to war. Intervention with #R2P (responsibility to protect). Rescue the people of Iran. If that is not your messaging right now, you are officially parroting a narrative of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Do you have the decency to challenge your world view? Or are you “hey wasn’t it 6 billion killed? lol 😂” That is the sense of humour George Carlin is talking about. #IranMassacre #IranianRevolution2026 Watch ⬇️

I interviewed Jaber Rajabi, a former Iranian regime stalwart, about how many people would need to be killed, in order to effect a clean regime change in Iran. His answer: "about 10." And he knows which 10 theatlantic.com/internationa… (in @TheAtlantic)

Most science today is little more than stamp collecting – one reason why science is slowing down open.substack.com/pub/hugofl…

So many of the greatest science books invoke a sense of wonder - but I've rarely found this to be the case with writing about neuroscience. What are your favourite poetic descriptions of the brain/psychology? - I'd like to start a collection.

I made my BBC documentary Better Off Dead? to explain why me & many other disabled people oppose legalising assisted suicide. Some of us have very real fears based on our lived experience & based on what has happened in other countries where it's legal. bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0…

I've never been one to shy away from new/unusual ideas, and at the start of my postdoc, I stumbled across an interesting question: Why is there substantial comorbidity between depression and type-2 diabetes? (x2 risk of developing one if you already have the other) The answer?

P.S. Extra shout-out to Martyna who helped to turn this study from an abstract idea into a fully-fledged study that was already collecting data within the span of her 6-week internship!
