📢Public Awareness of Community Dogs
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is committed to implementing the directions issued by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Suo Moto Writ Petition (Civil) No. 5 of 2025 concerning the management of stray animals and wishes to clarify the following.
1. FEEDING OF COMMUNITY DOGS IS ALLOWED
Feed only at designated feeding spots. Additional feeding spots are being designated across all five city corporations based on the number of community dogs in each ward.
2. DO NOT RELOCATE OR REMOVE STRAY DOGS
Relocation or removal of community dogs by individuals, groups, or associations is prohibited and constitutes an offence under applicable laws
3. DESIGNATED RELOCATION PROCESS
As per the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, stray dogs in the identified areas will be shifted to designated shelters by 05 Municipal Corporations through designated officers.
4. CRUELTY TOWARDS ANIMALS IS PUNISHABLE
It is illegal to harass, assault, injure or inflict cruelty on stray animals. Appropriate legal action will be taken against such acts.
5. NEED INFORMATION ON FEEDING SPOTS?
Residents can contact the Greater Bengaluru Authority Helpline 1533 to request for the identification of a designated feeding place in their area.
6. APPEAL TO CITIZENS
The Greater Bengaluru Authority appeals to citizens, Apartment owner associations and Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) to behave with mutual respect and cooperation to promote community harmony and animal welfare.
