An honor to write for War on the Rocks: warontherocks.com/the-rain-i… While I share the late @ScottAdamsSays 's critique of analogies as a determinant (excuse) for action, they reward the discerning with understanding. Sometimes the flashiest parallels aren't what they seem.

This is 1 of 2 un-spoken, unexplored issues here, and by far the hardest to address.

The Way of Ego-Death cleanses us to become "lost" in a life-giving way as we work. Only then can our finished-yet-imperfect product create some wholeness, can produce wholeness in us, the sub-creator, can bring about a bit of wholeness in those who observe and use it.

This is a deep truth that affects falling in love, marriage, and parenting (neither finding a spouse, nor raising kids in our image/ego), in addition to truly satisfying the other creative and procreative voices calling from within us to make homes, gardens, schools, meals, classes, computers, codes, substack posts, etc.

The intertwining of Good Order, Obedience & Charity as in Celtic art, makes me wonder: might laws for a Common Good (like books for Common Prayer) be incomprehensible, unattractive, without a renewed understanding, and enacting, of love?

@Hillsdale and @GroveCtyCollege! How privileged we are to have Dr Mitchell @HumoredHumanist and @peternmitchell writing this article for us. If this is standard fare then your colleges are putting history back on the map and making it relevant today-something we can agree on.
This weeks banger is a brothers collab between @peternmitchell and @HumoredHumanist on the medieval gig economy. Link below to read 👇
