Day Two of the Teamsters 31st International Convention has wrapped in Las Vegas! The day started with thousands of democratically elected delegates voting by white ballot to re-elect Sean M. O’Brien and Fred Zuckerman to another five-year term as General President and General Secretary-Treasurer, renewing a mandate for powerful, militant leadership on behalf of 1.3 million rank-and-file Teamsters across North America. Over the next five years, O’Brien and Zuckerman have pledged to continue the fight at UPS and Amazon, strengthen Teamsters density in core industries, defend and improve contracts across every division of the union, and build even bigger bipartisan coalitions to pass the Faster Labor Contracts Act and other legislation to benefit working people. Delegates heard from Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) about their leadership championing the Faster Labor Contracts Act, as well as from Teamsters who've successfully passed a variety of local and state-level legislation, including the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, the Delivery Protection Act, bans on captive audience meetings, and mandates for human operators in autonomous vehicles. To conclude Day Two, rank-and-file workers who have taken on some of the biggest fights against Corporate America to demand and command more for themselves and their families addressed the 31st International Convention. The Teamsters Union has set the standard for the labor movement by recruiting 100,000 new members to our ranks in just four years.

O’BRIEN, ZUCKERMAN REELECTED TO SECOND FIVE-YEAR TERM LEADING TEAMSTERS The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced today that Sean M. O’Brien and Fred Zuckerman have been reelected to another five-year term as General President and General Secretary-Treasurer, respectively, renewing a mandate for powerful, militant leadership on behalf of 1.3 million rank-and-file Teamsters across North America. The O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United slate was elected by white ballot at the union’s 31st International Convention in Las Vegas following a secret ballot vote of 1,572 delegates. All voting delegates were democratically elected to the convention by rank-and-file members from more than 330 local unions across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. No opposition candidates received enough votes to meet the Teamsters’ constitutionally required threshold to challenge the O’Brien-Zuckerman team. “This victory belongs to rank-and-file Teamsters. When we were sworn into office four years ago, our leadership team committed to building a bigger, faster, stronger union, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. We’ve organized more than 100,000 new members, won historic agreements including a record contract for 340,000 members at UPS, and put rank-and-file members back in the driver’s seat. The Teamsters is now the most aggressive, effective, and respected labor union on Earth,” O’Brien said. “Over the next five years, we have a lot of work ahead of us. The Teamsters face big fights at UPS and Amazon, and we are prepared to tackle those head on with the militancy and organization that has defined our administration. We will keep growing and never stop working for the members.” “The Teamsters are stronger, more secure, and more prepared to take on greedy employers than at any point in our 123-year history. We have more than $1 billion in total assets, and our Strike and Defense Fund stands at approximately $365 million, providing the ammunition to take on the boss and protect our members,” Zuckerman said. “The Teamsters have accomplished so much to expand our ranks, exert real political influence, and safeguard our members in an ever-evolving economy. But we’re just getting started. The future is bright and the state of the union is strong in the Teamsters.” O’Brien is a fourth-generation Teamster from Local 25 in Charlestown, Mass. Zuckerman joined the Teamsters more than four decades ago as a rank-and-file member in Houston and later went on to lead Local 89 in Louisville, Ky. Together, they bring an aggressive grassroots approach to taking on employers and prioritizing member involvement in the union. The O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United slate will take the oath of office in March 2027. The 2027-2032 Teamsters General Executive Board includes: International Vice Presidents At-Large: Juan Campos, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 705, Chicago, Ill.; Lindsay Dougherty, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 399, Hollywood, Calif.; Tom Erickson, President, Local 120, Blaine, Minn.; Greg Floyd, President, Local 237, New York, N.Y.; Peter Finn, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 856, San Bruno, Calif.; Thomas Gesualdi, President, Local 282, New Hyde Park, N.Y.; and James Wright, President, Local 822, Norfolk, Va.; Western Region Vice Presidents: Mark Davison, President, Local 162, Portland, Ore.; Rick Hicks, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 174, Tukwila, Wash.; Victor Mineros, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 396, Covina, Calif.; and Karla Schumann, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 104, Phoenix, Ariz.; Central Region Vice Presidents: Danny Avelyn, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 554, Omaha, Neb.; Pat Darrow, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 348, Akron, Ohio; and Dustin Roach, President, Local 135, Indianapolis, Ind.; Eastern Region Vice Presidents: Rocco Calo, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 1150, Stratford, Conn.; William Hamilton, President, Local 107, Philadelphia, Pa.; and Matt Taibi, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 251, Providence, R.I.; Southern Region Vice Presidents: Thor Johnson, Vice President, Local 79, Tampa, Fla.; and Brent Taylor, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 745, Dallas, Texas; International Trustees: Sean Cedenio, Secretary-Treasurer, Local 570, Baltimore, Md.; Willie Ford, President, Local 71, Charlotte, N.C.; and Vinnie Perrone, President, Local 804, New York, N.Y.; Teamsters Canada International Vice Presidents: François Laporte, President, Teamsters Canada, Laval, Quebec; Stan Hennessy, President, Local 31, Delta, British Columbia; and Craig McInnes, President, Local 938, Mississauga, Ontario.

Delegates and attendees at the Teamsters 31st International Convention today heard from Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Cory Booker (D-NJ). Last week, the United States House of Representatives passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA). With the passage of the FLCA in the House, the legislation now moves to the United States Senate. The FLCA is bipartisan legislation that would amend the National Labor Relations Act to require employers to bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form their union. Sens. Booker and Hawley are the bipartisan co-sponsors in the United States Senate. In addition to the FLCA, the Teamsters celebrated a variety of local and state-level legislation, including the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, the Delivery Protection Act, bans on captive audience meetings, and mandates for human operators in autonomous vehicles.

Day one of the Teamsters 31st International Convention has come to a close following the unanimous passage of a resolution on UPS contract enforcement. Earlier in the day, attendees heard from Karla Schumann, Teamsters Western Region International Vice President, Vinnie Perrone, President of Teamsters Local 804, and a group of UPS Teamsters from across the country on their top priorities. The resolution recommits the International Union to pursuing those goals by reclaiming work that UPS has funneled to nonunion subcontractors.

On the first day of the Teamsters 31st International Convention in Las Vegas, Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman delivered his report on the state of the union’s finances. Zuckerman reported that the Teamsters have over $1 billion in total assets and more than $365 million in the strike and defense fund, and he discussed modernization efforts the International Union is engaging in to best serve affiliates. “The rank-and-file are the reason for every success we celebrate today. They are the reason our finances are strong and why our organizing efforts are succeeding,” Zuckerman said. “They are also the reason the Teamsters remain the most respected, feared, and effective union in North America. And when they are forced to strike, our members walk the line with confidence because they know their union has the finances to have their back.”

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien presented his report to delegates of the Teamsters 31st International Convention in Las Vegas. O’Brien highlighted the remarkable strides the union has taken over the last five years. These accomplishments include organizing 100,000 new workers, securing passage of high priority legislation at all levels of government, and waging 350 strikes against the worst employers in North America. “Over the last four years, Teamsters across North America reminded the world exactly who we are. We organized at unprecedented rates. We mobilized in every corner of the continent. We negotiated strong contracts across all industries. We took on greedy employers and held corrupt politicians accountable. And we struck more than 350 times,” O’Brien said. “Together, we rebuilt the Teamsters into the most aggressive, effective, and respected labor union on Earth. We’re bigger. We’re faster. We’re stronger. The Teamsters are back, baby, so buckle up!”

The Teamsters Union has taken huge steps forward over the last five years. We’ve organized 100,000 new members. We’ve bargained record contracts in sector after sector. And we’ve waged 350 strikes against the nastiest corporations in North America. At this 31st International Convention, we’re going to set our sights even higher. We need the militancy and engagement of all 1.3 million Teamsters to make it happen.

TEAMSTERS-LED FASTER LABOR CONTRACTS ACT PASSES U.S. HOUSE WITH BIPARTISAN SUPPORT With bipartisan support, the U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA), a Teamsters-led bill that could become the strongest new labor legislation for American workers in generations. Just three weeks prior, the discharge petition filed by Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ, 1st District) received the 218 signatures needed to force a vote on the landmark law that would hold employers accountable for delaying first union contracts.     “The Faster Labor Contracts Act is the most consequential labor bill to come before Congress in decades. Its bipartisan passage out of the House of Representatives is a significant milestone for millions of American workers,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “The 1.3-million member Teamsters Union has worked tirelessly to build a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents who are committed to improving the lives of working people. Millions of workers at Amazon and other major companies who are fed up with being overworked, underpaid, and undervalued are organizing their unions today in record numbers. We can no longer tolerate a broken system that allows corporations to corruptly drag out negotiations and shirk their legal obligations to bargain fair first union contracts. The FLCA has a real shot to right generations of wrongs and level the playing field for workers. The Teamsters are eager for the Senate to take up this urgent legislation and ensure it lands on the President’s desk.”    The FLCA would amend the National Labor Relations Act to require employers to bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form their union. Establishing a reasonable timeline for all parties to negotiate in good faith, the legislation provides a path to mediation if no agreement is reached within 90 days and a referral to arbitration to ensure first contracts can be fairly resolved.    The Senate version of the bill, introduced last year by Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), continues to gain strong bipartisan support.    “The Teamsters Union is grateful to all members of the U.S. House who had the courage to stand with workers, to put aside partisan politics, and to advance this legislation,” said Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman. “Right now, hardworking Americans are forced to wait 458 days on average for their employers to stop playing games, get to the table, and negotiate first union contracts. With the full support of the Teamsters Union, the FLCA will put an end to this corporate corruption and give workers the opportunity they deserve to lead better lives and rebuild the American middle class. The Teamsters thank Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D, NY-08) and House Republicans and Democrats who did the right thing to bring this important bill to the floor. The Senate must schedule its own markup and pass the FLCA as soon as possible.”
