Resident doctors in Scotland have voted overwhelmingly to accept the latest pay offer. Increasing pay by 10% this year and 9.4% next year. This is an important step forward, but years of pay erosion mean the journey isn’t over. The BMA in Scotland will keep pushing for full pay restoration to protect Scotland’s NHS and the patients who rely on it. bma.org.uk/news-and-opinion/…

Fucking prick My son spent 6 months in Iraq, and then two 7 month tours of Afghanistan with the Royal Marines He fought hard in Sangin saw friends die, or be maimed. He bears scars of his own, and he did it because the USA triggered article 5 Risible, amoral fucking bastard
Trump on NATO: "I've always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? That's really the ultimate test. I'm not sure of that. We've never needed them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan and this or that. And they did. They stayed a little back, off the front lines."
Community note
Of the reported 3621 coalition deaths in Afghanistan, 2461 were US personnel, the remainder were coalition countries, including the UK, at 457, and Canada at 159. UK (with Denmark and Estonia) and Canadian forces were the front line in Kandahar and Helmand. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coalition…

This is not how anyone should gain experience or credibility in medical training. It may be compromising his contractual rest and therefore safety, and if this is how you climb the ladder then it is actively discriminating against those with caring responsibilities etc.
Impressed by our FY1 in theatre today, volunteering on his day off. He’s set on core training in theatre, scrubbed for every case, retractor in hand. This lad’s going far!

These stories are so informative and will be (anonymously) part of my submission to the review of medical education and training. Why would anyone choose to join a profession treated so badly!
Accused loudly in front of staff in a local ICU by the sister of stealing when making a coffee despite my name being on a list on the cupboard door of staff who’d paid into the coffee fund. No apology either when I pulled her up on it. Total lack of respect for doctors often!

As a new FY1, having just certified my very first death - on a very, very, long night shift - I made myself a cup of NHS tea. The nurse in charge subsequently threatened me with disciplinary action for ‘stealing’. As a new ICU Registrar in Aus, I was asked for my address - so the hospital could send me a thank you hamper. The NHS is terrible employer.
Overworked, underpaid, and subjected to unnecessary hostility. An NHS doctor was prevented from accessing the ward kitchen for a simple glass of tap water. It’s no surprise so many doctors are leaving for countries where they’re valued, respected, and treated with basic dignity.

I told this story to one of our local aspiring female intensivists and was so sad to hear she had a similar experience a few years back. Fortunately, she’s now got 4 kids, doing a great job on our ICU and still wants to be one of us!
🔥Have been incensed about something all day…. Women are the majority of medical students in the UK, yet there are still pockets of the medical profession where dinosaurs are alive, well & roam the earth. Turns out my own clinical specialty (ICM) is sadly one such place…. 1/8
