The weather outside is frightful but doing an asynchronous Math AQ from the comfort of your own home is so delightful. Last chance to join @OISE_CPL P/J Math Part 2 or Math specialists courses beginning this Thursday Jan 18! Boards are still subsidizing. Don’t miss your chance!

Check out the new math curriculum at Ontario.ca/curriculum #onted I know that there were some very good people working behind the scenes to make this as relevant and research-based as possible (and beyond the political rhetoric). Thanks to them for their efforts!

Followed up my chat with Isla about equality by playing some Van de Walle inspired “True or False?”

Playing “Go Fish 10” with Isla. Talked about the switcheroo (commutative property), 8 2=2 8 and made other true statements like 1 9=4 6 and 5 5=3 7 while exploring equality.

On to problem solving. Stella: What numbers can you divide by three so there is a remainder of one? Isla’s from @mburnsmath: A collection of animals has 16 legs, what animals could they be?

Working on mastering math facts today, multiplication for Stella using Kamii’s 4-in-a-Row and doubling for Isla using @ctfosnot Doubles Bingo. Yep, those are homemade boards and materials.

Number tasks for my daughters today inspired by @marian_small, Stella: The product of two numbers is about 50, what are the factors? Isla: I have three coins in my pocket, how much money might I have?

Do you think that this folds into a box?

Maybe a better question...where can I put the last square to make a box?
I love the connection to Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, especially characteristic 5: “Deep knowledge of your students.”

I wish I had captured today’s session on video to reflect the energy and excitement of our educators as they explored Math Up @GordonGraydon @peelengagemath We also had time to self-reflect and plan next steps. I’m so inspired by the collaborative learning of our team❤️❤️❤️

But were there @dduff77 inspired “technical math sounds”?
19 Nov 2019
started out as a #mathology lesson on interpreting graphs in gr1 turned into a ‘whole-body @dduff77 inspired-magic-line’ to listen to Ss understanding about ‘more, less than the same’ of bar graphs strategies to prove-so much Ts learning and thinking @peelengagemath @ICRyTack
