📢 We had the pleasure of hosting the World Bank and the AICCRA teams. The visit provided an opportunity to highlight ICPAC’s mandate, services, and regional leadership in advancing climate prediction and early warning across Eastern Africa. We also reflected on AICCRA’s remarkable contributions and achievements over the past five years in enhancing climate resilience through innovation, partnerships, and the co-production of climate information for decision-making. 👉🏾 The programme included a brief overview of ICPAC and AICCRA’s contributions, highlighted key priorities for the next phase of AICCRA, and concluded with a tour of the ICPAC Situation Room and Server Room, demonstrating the systems and infrastructure that support climate monitoring and early warning in the region. 👉🏾We look forward to continued collaboration to strengthen climate resilience and deliver greater impact for communities. #ICPAC #AICCRA #WorldBank #ClimateServices #EarlyWarning #ClimateResilience #EasternAfrica

Investing in people is investing in resilience. Over the past three weeks, ICPAC trained Ugandan water experts in advanced hydrological modeling, enhancing national capacity to forecast floods, manage water resources, and strengthen early warning systems. Together, we are building a more climate-resilient region. Special thanks to Dr Jully Ouma , Dr @aamdihun , and ICPAC Director Dr. Abdi Fidar for leading this effort, and to the @WFPGovts for supporting the broader flood forecasting partnership. #DisasterRiskReduction #ClimateServices #ClimateResilience #EasternAfrica #ClimateAction

📢 Today, ICPAC hosted IDRC and ICPALD to review progress on the Extreme Heat Science and PASSAGE projects. Key achievements include the development of an extreme heat monitoring and early warning tool for the Greater Horn of Africa and the successful delivery of three cross-border Sub-Regional Climate Outlook Forums (Sub-COFs 3, 4, and 5) serving pastoral communities in the Karamoja, Marsabit–Borana, and Mandera clusters. Through these forums, seasonal forecasts now reach cross-border communities as co-produced advisories that combine scientific and indigenous knowledge, delivered in local languages to support timely decisions on agriculture, livestock, and early action. We thank IDRC for its support through the CLARE programme, and ICPALD, the University of Sussex, and all consortium partners for their collaboration in strengthening early warning and anticipatory action for pastoralist livelihoods. #IGAD #ClimateServices #EarlyWarning #PASSAGEProject

🌍☔️🌊🍃🎤 Climate action is not a solo mission—it requires strong collaboration among scientists, policymakers, local leaders, communities, and the media. But how do we connect these vital stakeholders? The answer lies in the media as they translate complex climate science into accessible, actionable information. Without it, critical data, insights, and partnerships can remain disconnected, limiting their impact on the people who need them most. WISER PASS-EA is strengthening climate services to reduce risks and build resilient communities across Africa by enhancing the quality, accessibility, and application of climate services. The project, supported by @FCDOGovUK, promotes co-production, equity, innovation, and actionable science to ensure that climate information is relevant, inclusive, and effective for decision-making at all levels. Collison Lore, a Regional User Engagement Expert, explains how bridging the gap between stakeholders is transforming climate resilience efforts and helping strengthen climate resilience across the region. #ClimateAction #ClimateServices #ClimateResilience #EarlyWarningSystems #ClimateInformation #MediaForClimate #StakeholderEngagement

🌍 Happy International World Environment Day 2026: “Climate Action” Climate change is not only an environmental issue—it is a human issue. It affects farmers facing drought, pastoralists searching for water and pasture, fishers whose livelihoods depend on healthy ecosystems, and communities impacted by pollution and environmental degradation. As the world comes together under the call “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” IGAD continues to advance practical solutions that protect people, livelihoods, and the natural resources on which communities depend. In 2025, #IGAD Member States adopted the IGAD Regional Plastic Pollution Prevention Strategy (2026–2035), a landmark framework to reduce plastic pollution, strengthen waste management systems, and promote a circular economy and Source to Sea approach across the region. By addressing plastic pollution, we are helping to safeguard public health, protect ecosystems, strengthen climate resilience, and secure a more sustainable future for our communities. 📖 Learn more about the regional framework: 🔗 igad.int/igad-member-states-… @SweinEthiopia #WorldEnvironmentDay2026  #ClimateAction  #RisingWithIGAD #OneRegionOneFuture

An El Niño is emerging. What do you know about it? El Niño is a powerful natural climate pattern that warms ocean waters in the central and eastern Equatorial Pacific. It typically occurs every 2-7 years, but no two El Niños are exactly alike. More ➡️ bit.ly/4e1hvLt
