🚧 Project Update | Foster Ave Bridge over I-90/Kennedy Expressway & CTA Railroad 🚧 Since our update last week, the team has been busy — and the progress speaks for itself! The IHC crew successfully completed its first 54-Hour Single Track closure, a major milestone requiring tight coordination between IHC, IDOT, and CTA. That scope included excavating, framing, reinforcement, and pouring a 2' Bottom Cap for the Center Pier — a critical step to retain ballast for the CTA Blue Line track during ongoing pier construction. From there, the track side of the Center Pier was framed up under a 2nd 54-Hour CTA Single Track closure, daytime rebar installation has been completed, and next week we'll be setting the front forms and pouring the pier. Today, the City of Marengo celebrated a milestone worth raising a glass to — with a ceremonial First Pour and ribbon cutting at their brand-new Water Filtration Plant! 💧 IHC is proud to have served as General Contractor on this project, delivering a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade including a new well, water transmission main improvements, and a state-of-the-art centralized treatment facility featuring two multi-cell pressure cells to remove iron, manganese, and radium from the water supply. Congressman Bill Foster, Senator Dave Syverson, and Representative Joe Sosnowski all spoke to the significance of the "Our Water at Work: Marengo's Next Chapter" project — and it's easy to see why. This system delivers clean, safe water to more than 7,500 residential, institutional, and commercial users across McHenry County. A huge shoutout to our IHC team who worked on the project from beginning to end — David, Brian, Brad, and Scott — and McMahon Associates, Inc. for helping bring this vision across the finish line. Even the skies celebrated this one! 🌈 IHC alongside Omega on the I-74 Bridge Replacement Project, successfully demolished the I-74 bridge beams over Rt. 17 — and nature gave us quite the backdrop to mark the occasion. Multiple lanes and off ramps were closed to ensure the safety of traveling motorists. Through proper planning and flawless execution, the task was completed without incident. That's the IHC standard. Here's what the IHC team has been up to: ✅ East Abutment – Extensive concrete repairs are underway on the Northeast retaining wall along the entrance ramp to the outbound Kennedy from Foster Avenue Bridge. Rebar prep at the East Abutment Approach is complete and a pour is slated for late next week! ✅ Center Pier – Drilled shafts are finished and we started going vertical Friday night! IHC is wrapping up the final tie-ins on the 10" and 8" force mains to the screen structure — a critical step in bringing this system online. The concrete pours you see are thrust blocks, engineered to hold the line under high pressure and prevent any blowouts or breakaways in the system.
