Obwohl ein erbitterter Wahlkampf geführt wird, gibt es nach wie vor keinerlei politische Gewalt. Es werden auch nicht wie in Deutschland die Autos von Oppositionspolitikern in Brand gesteckt. Wer die Regierung im Internet kritisiert, muss nicht mit der Verfolgung durch Polizei und Staatsanwälte rechnen. Mitten in der Stadt steht die größte jüdische Synagoge Europas.
