For the back row now please!!! FUN! Keep it fun.
The amount of mini-adult training programs on social media is astounding... Just an FYI: Kids have little desire to do: planks split squats weighted carries They literally have the rest of their lives to exercise. The pre-adolescent years should be dedicated to developing agility, balance, coordination, and body awareness in a dynamic and engaging environment. It's important that children have positive movement experiences early in life so that have a desire to continue to move as they get older. #LTAD

Here’s to another year of watching our kids grow, struggle, rise, stumble, discover who they are, and chase something they love. Being in the front row for all of it is a privilege. Every year, I look backward before I look forward. The lessons of 2024 guide my 2025. So here's what I know for sure: I still have a lot to work on. I also discovered something else, I could finally take a few long-standing, tough-to-overcome, not-so-pleasant things off this list. I am a work in progress. I want to be the best sports parent I can be for my daughters, so I keep working. I continue to learn, grow, and practice. So here's to it, 2025, LET'S GO! #goals #2025 #newyear #sportsparenting #youthsports #growth ilovetowatchyouplay.com/2024…

7 Reasons HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS Are the Best As we kick off 2025, let’s take a moment to appreciate why high school sports are simply the BEST. These experiences are one-of-a-kind, unforgettable, and create memories that stick with us forever. Here are 7 reasons they mean so much: 1. PLAY WITH CHILDHOOD FRIENDS 🤝 - Small towns, small schools. - No recruits, no transfers. - Just kids who’ve grown up together since 2nd grade. - Like brothers or sisters, the bond is unmatched. 2. RIVALRY GAMES 🏀 - Nothing beats the intensity of high school rivalries. - A close game. - Bragging rights are on the line. - It’s what makes the season electric. 3. STUDENT SECTIONS 📣 - Your friends cheering their hearts out. - School spirit alive and thriving. - A packed gym or stadium shaking with noise. - Nothing compares. 4. THE PEP BAND 🥁 - Classmates playing their hearts out. - Loud, proud, and adding to the crazy atmosphere. - It’s pure magic. 5. PLAY FOR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY 🏟️ - Fans in the stands, rooting for you. - Brings the school and community together. - A shared experience that builds lifelong connections. 6. PURE JOY AND PASSION ⭐ - The energy, passion, and pure joy of the game. - Authentic, raw, and unforgettable. - One of the greatest feelings you’ll ever have. 7. MEMORIES FOR A LIFETIME 🕰️ - These moments will stay with you forever. - When you look back on your high school years, these memories will be some of the best! _____ Do you like this post? 👉 Follow me @gregberge for actionable coaching, leadership, and team culture tips. 📬 Subscribe to my free newsletter, Great Teams - Better Leaders, via the link in my profile.

10 Reasons HS Coaches Are the HEART of Sports ❤️ High school coaches don’t just teach plays - they shape lives. While college and pro coaches have massive resources, HS coaches work with limited time, tight budgets, and endless challenges. Yet their impact is unmatched. Here’s why high school coaches are true game-changers: 1: They Shape Lives, Not Just Athletes - High school coaches are often the first mentors kids have outside of their families, teaching life lessons that last a lifetime. 2: They Wear Multiple Hats - Unlike college or pro coaches, they’re also teachers, bus drivers, counselors, and sometimes field maintenance crews. 3: They Work with Limited Resources - Small budgets, few assistants, and hand-me-down equipment - yet they still find a way to succeed. 4: They Build from Scratch - They coach everyone, from the star athlete to the kid who’s never played before, developing players who may never see the spotlight. 5: They Are the Culture Keepers - In many schools, the coach is the program, defining the culture and traditions for future generations. 6: They Face Community Pressure - High school coaches aren’t just leading a team; they represent a school, a town, and its expectations. 7: They Balance Full-Time Jobs - Most high school coaches do more than just coach; they also teach classes or work other full-time jobs. 8: They Build Relationships - High school coaches don’t recruit talent; they develop it by building trust and connections over time. 9: They Handle Parents and Politics - Managing parent expectations, team dynamics, and school administration requires patience and skills many overlook. 10: They Do It for the Love of the Game - High school coaches don’t coach for fame or big paychecks; they do it because they love the sport, the kids, and the opportunity to make a difference. High school coaching isn’t easy, but it’s powerful. These coaches' impact goes far beyond wins and losses - it’s measured in lives changed. To all the high school coaches, thank you for what you do. You’re the real MVPs! _____ Does this post resonate with you? 👉 Follow me @gregberge for actionable coaching, leadership, and team culture tips. 📬 Subscribe to my free newsletter, Great Teams - Better Leaders 123, via the link in my profile!

This is the story of why one coach has made it his mission to change youth soccer. I have been following Nate Baker now for several months. He is redefining what it means to coach youth soccer with an unwavering dedication to development, putting the long-term growth of each child at the center of his approach. His dedication goes far beyond teaching skills and tactics—Nate is committed to developing whole, well-rounded individuals who are resilient, confident, and empowered both on and off the field. In a world where the pressure to win often overshadows true growth, Nate is pushing forward with a different approach, grounded in the belief that nurturing the human being is as important as training the athlete. He documents his learnings, teachings, and philosophies in his newsletter and on LinkedIn, where he inspires others to rethink the true goals of youth sports. Both links are available in the article. If you know of someone like Nate, I would love to hear about them! DM me please! #coaching #development #soccer #soccercoach ilovetowatchyouplay.com/2024…

⁉️Why are you spending every free minute driving or in gyms and on fields? Why are you spending thousands of dollars on team fees, equipment, and personal training? Why are you pushing your child so hard that they are stressed out and there is friction between you? 🎯If you aren't grounded in your WHY, it's easy to become angry, resentful, and full of fear and FOMO. Spend time really thinking about your WHYs. 🔑Here are some good ones to get you started: -They love playing -They are learning valuable life skills -You love watching them play -You love the time you spend together 🙌🏼Once you grasp your WHY, youth sports will become much more enjoyable for you and your child. #studentathlete #sportsparents #sport #parenting #athlete

Just read an article by @AndrewPetcash on LinkedIn. The headline: Mom Economy, The Real Driver In Youth Sports. This is pretty obvious. But what really resonated and he got to later in the article, is the reason why youth sports is a billion dollar industry. It's our innate need to belong to a community and to support our kid's dreams. Youth sports tap into our fundamental desire for connection and the fulfillment we experience when our children succeed. This emotional bond is what drives our commitment and financial investment in youth sports. If you don't get Andrew's newsletter, Profluence Sports, you should. Always great insights. petcashpost.com/p/mom-econom…

Coaches, are you choosing your captains and the leadership roles on your team for the wrong reasons? Because they have the loudest voice or talk the most? In @AdamMGrant's book Hidden Potential, he calls it the “babble effect.” And doing this “undermines competence and rewards dominance rather than collaboration.” Grant says we should focus on promoting individuals with prosocial skills who prioritize team cohesion over personal glory to improve leadership within a team. We should choose leaders who amplify and elevate other voices rather than silencing or shooting them down. Look for leaders who excel at listening and tap into the intelligence and ideas of the entire team. #hiddenpotential #leadership #adamgrant #teamsports #studentathlete #coach

Good stuff here. Parents love creating a victim mindset for their kids as well. #Accountability
1 Aug 2024
My biggest pet peeve as a coach? The VICTIM Mindset. It sets kids up for a life of mediocrity. Don’t let this happen. Here are 5 ways it forms. 1. The Blame Game - Did you lose a game? Why did you lose? It is always easier to point the finger. What do victims do? - Blame your teammate. - Blame the coach. - Blame the refs. - Blame anyone. Don’t be a victim. 2. Excuse Makers - Do you take responsibility for your actions or make excuses for your inaction? - They got lucky. - I don’t have time. - They were born with it. Don’t be an excuse-maker. OWN it. Learn from it. Accept responsibility. 3. Live in Fear - Are you afraid to make mistakes? Are you afraid to take risks? Do you fear failure? The most successful people do not believe in failure. They believe in learning, and they believe in growing. Your mindset matters. 4. Comparison is the thief of Joy - When you constantly compare yourself to others and do not accept your strengths and weaknesses, you present yourself as a victim. You will never be able to win the comparison game. It is a dangerous place to go. 5. Lack of Ownership - Athletes with a victim mindset often fail to take ownership of their training, preparation, and performance. They have a fixed mindset. They perceive themselves as powerless and at the mercy of external circumstances. _____ Like this post? Then follow me for more. Also, join 12,000 others and subscribe to Great Teams Better Leaders. Calling all parents of young athletes. It's ok that you don't believe what I say, what we write about here, or what that parent on your team with an older sibling tells you. It's hard for you to get it when you haven't experienced it. It's called perspective. And until you go through it yourself... until your seemingly indestructible sport-obsessed child turns into an often injured, burnt-out teenager, you just don't think it could happen to you. But it can and it will. And there is science to back it up. ilovetowatchyouplay.com/2024…

Your Team Culture isn't just some cool slogan on a T-shirt, or a poster on the weight room wall. Your Team culture is a LIVING, BREATHING organism, that needs to be tended to (watered, nurtured, and pruned), each and every day!
