After public backlash, the Dr. Pramod Sawant led @bjp4goa Government was forced to halt the #smartmeter rollout and withdraw penalties imposed on consumers for not applying for increased electricity load. This raises a fundamental question: Is the Government meant to serve the people, or are the people expected to serve the Government? If the Electricity Department had already identified consumers with inadequate sanctioned load, why didn't it automatically revise the load and recover the applicable charges through the regular electricity bills after giving due notice? When the Government possesses consumers' addresses, mobile numbers and billing records, shifting the entire burden onto ordinary citizens and then penalising them for non-compliance reflects administrative failure. It also raises another serious question: Was this exercise genuinely aimed at improving consumer services, or was it an attempt to generate additional revenue from Goans at a time when the Government faces mounting expenditure on publicity and events? The people of Goa deserve transparency, accountability and governance that prioritises public welfare over bureaucratic convenience. Protecting consumers and ensuring a smooth transition was the Government's responsibility. Governance should be about facilitating solutions, not creating hardships for the very people it is meant to serve.

GPCC Media and Communication Department Chairman @AmarnathAldona Amarnath Panjikar has questioned the BJP Goa Government's decision to impose electricity load penalties without adequately informing consumers. When the Electricity Department has access to billing addresses, mobile numbers and consumer records, why were people not directly notified? More importantly, why did Power Minister @SudinDhavalikar allow penalties to be imposed without a comprehensive awareness campaign?
