After waiting for over two weeks for Security agencies and INEC to take action against Lere Olayinka for breaching his privacy, Emeka Ike has finally sued INEC and Lere Olayinka. In the suit, which was filed yesterday and is yet to be assigned to any judge, Emeka Ike demanded N10 billion in general and aggravated damages, jointly and severally, from both INEC and Mr. Olayinka for the emotional distress, insecurity, and gross violation of his fundamental human rights. He also asked the court to order Lere Olayinka to immediately delete the social media posts from his X account and all platforms, then tender an official apology as well. Recall that Lere Olayinka had posted unauthorized screenshots of Emeka Ike's personal data, allegedly taken directly from INEC's restricted back-end administrative portal. Since then, Emeka Ike has waited patiently for Security agencies to investigate Lere Olayinka and do their job. However, it appears the agencies have been very slow in making that happen. According to Justice Peter Lifu, the affected parties failed to satisfy the minimum electoral performance benchmarks required by law. He agreed that they failed to secure at least 25 per cent of votes in any state during the last presidential election and also failed to win any elective seat at the federal, state, or local government levels during the previous electoral cycle. The court further held that allowing non-performing political platforms to remain registered weakens the integrity of Nigeria's multi-party system. Recall that this suit was filed on April 23 by the National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL), with the Attorney General of the Federation, INEC, and ADC joined as defendants. With this judgment, whether you belong to the Nafiu Bala faction, the David Mark faction, or the Dumebi faction, you are no longer existing in the eyes of the law until this judgment is successfully overturned on appeal. The court also stated that there should be no party activities from the affected parties. This is exactly why I have continued to say that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso really dodged a bullet.
