Western governments and elites thought that meddling in Ukraine and confronting Russia would increase their power and help them grab land and resources. But things have not turned out as expected. How the Ukraine War Broke the West cuts through the propaganda and sensationalism to provide a fact-filled account of how a limited regional conflict took down an empire.

Pope Leo XIV on war in Iran: "I think this has already been made very clear: the notion of a just war no longer applies. The problem is that just war theory developed in centuries when no one could have imagined the weapons we have today or humanity's capacity for destruction."

To be clear: the Arctic Refuge coastal plain is the most biologically sensitive part of the refuge. It's where polar bears den and the Porcupine caribou herd gives birth. No amount of oil justifies what drilling would do to this place.
This Friday @Interior will hold an oil/gas lease sale in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, one of the largest undeveloped landscapes in North America. This is the first of at least four before 2035. blm.gov/press-release/blm-an…

The Tongass National Forest is the last intact temperate rainforest on Earth. Ancient trees—some 500 years old — rise so tall they vanish into the mist. Bear cubs learn to fish in its streams. Salmon return to the same rivers their ancestors used for millennia. Eagles nest in old growth that took centuries to become what it is. Three Indigenous nations — Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian — have called it home since long before this country existed. 17 million acres of Southeast Alaska. It stores 20% of the carbon held across ALL U.S. forests. It’s North America’s Amazon. It’s National Forest Week. And they’re about to clearcut it. Secretary Rollins rescinded its protections last June. Trump signed an executive order stripping federal land protections further in May. Bloomberg Law reports the formal full repeal lands this summer. 9 million undeveloped acres lose protection overnight. Triple the timber-suitable acreage opens up. 11 tribal governments have fought for this forest’s survival. One of them said it plainly: “You cannot separate us from the land.” How much old growth has to disappear before people finally call it irreversible? #DemsUnited

Pope Leo quotes Gandalf in encyclical debut: “It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till.”

Crazy to watch the U.S. trade economic places with #Chile in only 50 years. The U.S. sponsored the coup that brought Pinochet to power in order to help American #copper companies like Anaconda. The U.S. is now the “Third World”.
Over a million acres of pristine wilderness lakes in Minnesota. The most visited canoe country in America. Generations of families have paddled it, fished it, camped it. The Senate just sold it out outright. They called it "America First." Then handed it to a Chilean billionaire — so his company can ship the copper to China. The Senate voted 50-49 to gut 20 years of Boundary Waters mining protections. Here's the deal they made. A Chilean billionaire's company digs the mine. America can't smelt the copper — we don't have the capacity. So the ore ships to China. China processes it. Sells it on the world market. Chile keeps the profits. Minnesotans don't even get the jobs. Minnesota keeps the pollution. And Americans get to buy it back from China at full market price. This same company has a documented history at their Chilean mines: pipeline spills, regulatory fines, and locals fighting back for years. They paid a former Trump Interior Secretary $380K. The protection died by one vote. Here's exactly how it happened — and who made it happen. Who do YOU think this mine actually serves? #DemsUnited

In about one hour, I will be arraigned on 4 felony counts and face up to 30 years in prison for taking this little guy out of a Ridglan cage. In addition to charging me, the government has banned me from contacting my co-defendants and is now trying to undermine my right to a speedy trial. But every corrupt and unconstitutional act by the government will simply make our case even stronger. We press forward to defend the right to rescue—and to defend the tens of thousands of other dogs (and billions of other animals) who remain trapped in cruel cages. Most importantly, we defend James. Every time I come home, he jumps in my lap and begs to be picked up. It was the first place he ever felt safe. Rescuing him was not a crime. It was one of the best things I've ever done. I relish the opportunity to defend rescuing James in court.

Ratio is getting out of hand on this one…
Just a friendly warning. We don’t even make $200k per year in Congress despite working nearly 140 days. If we aren’t properly compensated, a lot of us will go to the private sector and you will be left with some real idiots in Congress.

Xi flexed on Trump. He said that he urges Trump not to fall into the “Thucydides Trap”. The Thucydides Trap Theory describes a dramatically increased likelihood of war due to a rising power’s prominence threatening to replace a hegemony. China knows the truth. It’s now up to these psychopaths to accept it with grace or keep cashing checks their ass (and quite frankly the entire western world) quite literally can’t cash.

UNPOPULAR OPINION The day is coming when we are going to have to permanently ditch our cell phones. The convenience of the "smart phone" is contributing to government surveillance and corporate eavesdropping. FYI.

Decline isn’t linear. Complex systems collapse along an exponential curve, as feedback loops amplify the downward trend. Slowly, slowly, then all at once.
Anyone else feel a general uptick in everything just NOT WORKING.
