Most important list if India wants to improve its Scientific Reputation. High time that retractions are included in rankings. Else universities have every incentive to publish as much as they can without caring about consequences. Data in thread ๐Ÿ‘‡ @ugc_india @ANRFIndia

Journal Trends is an amazing tool to see publishing trends and patterns of a journal. All you need is an ISSN. Hats off to @IRWatchdog for developing this incredible open source tool for research integrity. I believe it will come in very handy to identify paper mills. ;)

300 papers at 600 USD each. Researchers could have saved 1.8 crore rupees just in this journal if they had checked journaltrends.netlify.app Note : We made this tool

Prestigious journal Nature's been a measure of quality for a very long time. Despite huge lack of resources, India was a healthy contributor to the journal post independence. Since 90s, we have stopped contributing much. This is highly worrying. Source: journaltrends.netlify.app/?iโ€ฆ

We have created a tool Journal Trends (link: journaltrends.netlify.app) to help visualize country wise, institute wise and author wise trends for any journal. It can help researchers stay away from predatory journals and choose more wisely.

Achal Agrawal founded the India Research Watch (IRW) after his observations of grave academic misconduct in India. Dr. Agrawal, now a freelance data scientist in Raipur, told scientific journal Nature how shocked he was when a student spoke casually of using software to publish his work, writes @divyagandhi04 thehindu.com/sci-tech/sciencโ€ฆ

Root cause for the increase in misconduct is misplaced metrics. Obvious flaws & loopholes are being exploited NIRF metrics have not changed in a decade Measures like retraction penalty are necessary, but we must not be complacent. A flex tape isn't going to plug a gaping hole

Important and Interesting discussion.
What happens when research misconduct or systemic failures shake the world of science? This panel at #SJAIConference2025 explores how journalists investigate such storiesโ€” using data forensics, public records, & whistleblower accounts โ€” while staying fair, factual & responsible.

We have fallen in the metrics trap. The developed world, which invented the metrics we chase, has moved on from the metrics. They know its limitations. We are chasing them and wasting our tremendous potential. We need to get out of that trap instead of celebrating it!
