Hard to overstate how many talented policy reporters started at E&E
New: Politico is folding E&E, the energy trade publication it bought in 2020. The company says it is reorganizing its energy coverage under the Politico brand and launching a series of new state and global energy newsletters.

Honestly, it looks like the hiring recession is over. US average job gains in 2025: 10,000 a month US average job gains in 2026: 114,000 a month Job gains in the past 3 months: 188,000 Almost every industry is hiring again except tech and finance. There are a lot of encouraging signs for the labor market heading into summer. (Unfortunately, inflation is a lot worse).
JUST IN: Another strong jobs report. The US economy added 172,000 jobs in May (way better than the 88k expected) and the revisions for April and March were 93k higher. Hospitality was the top job gainer ( 70k) followed by local gov’t ( 55k) Unemployment rate in May: 4.3% (same as April) Job gains so far in 2026: 114,000 per month Job gains in 2025: 10,000 per month The bad news = wages grew 3.4% in past year. -->The lowest rate in 4 years and well below ~4% inflation.

No one is more annoyed by the AI revolution than people who can actually write a sentence. Basically, having any ability to write now is suspect - you will get accused of being AI at some point. It feels like you are being accused of being a witch, of holding a type of rare magic that only the machines are now allowed to have.

A departure from the administration's normal talking points, to say the least.
During Public Service Recognition Week, we honor the people who keep our country running. Public servants take the oath and show up every day, often without recognition, and shoulder that duty. They respond when it matters most, and deliver for the American people in ways many never see. We may help build the technology, but the heart of it lives inside the agencies carrying out the mission, on the front lines and behind the scenes. It goes beyond one week. Our respect for those who serve is 365 days a year, and so is their impact.

Bravo to @hannah_natanson, whose Pulitzer Prize reporting overcame an outrageous and chilling FBI raid on her home, a threat to journalism in this country

Look for the helpers
The Hilton donated the ~2600 dinners that went unserved at WHCD. They freeze dried the steak and lobster for longer shelf life before giving them to 2 shelters for abused women and children. HUGE thank you to the staff that worked through the night under terrible circumstances.

If you want to know what journalists do in an emergency — even one that threatens their immediate safety — they hunker down and bring you the news. This is my @politico colleagues reporting moments after a shooting shut down the #WHCD. Read their work: politico.com/news/2026/04/25…

So proud of @weijia. She was on the stage less than an hour ago presiding over the abrupt end of the dinner and now she’s in the front row of the White House briefing room waiting to for the President to speak.

Unacceptable in a free society with a free press
NEW and BREAKING: The FBI began investigating New York Times reporter Elizabeth Williamson earlier this year after she published a story about how Kash Patel was using FBI personnel to provide his girlfriend with govt security and transportation.
