sports minister strongly supported grassroots sports development, including football, through schemes like Khelo India.
The main school-focused initiative is FIFAโs Football for Schools (F4S) programme, launched in India around 2021-2022 in partnership with the Ministry of Education, AIFF, and the central government. It aims to reach 25 million schoolchildren by integrating football with education.
By 2025-2026, it has expanded significantly:-
โข Over 1.53 lakh schools connected.
โข Nearly 10 lakh footballs distributed.
โข Full nationwide rollout across 33 states and UTs completed by February 2026.
โข Recent distributions (e.g., 2.53 lakh balls in Kendriya Vidyalayas/Navodaya Vidyalayas in early 2026).
Khelo India (extended to 2025-26) continues supporting football infrastructure, coaching, and competitions at school and grassroots levels.
These efforts are already active there but we still donโt have a good soccer team .
We want to see blue as well here .
