Jayakrishnan Subramanian examined a metaphoric interpretation of classical Tamil poetry and the artistic depiction of the desert landscape in his project Palai: Landscapes of Longing.

He focused on the desert landscape of ‘Palai’ in Sangam literature and interspersed it with a story on Tamil migrant workers in the Middle East. through an experimental film-essay blending real footage and animation to address themes of separation and longing.
