6/n After a houseful workshop @IndiaRust Sarthak Makhija (Principal Architect, Caizin) returns with "Fast on paper, slow in reality" - a candid post-mortem on building a distributed key-value store & why designs that were “correct” failed under production pressure.
4/n @arpit_bhayani - on why databases were not designed for agents. Arpit unpacks what changes when LLMs start interacting with your data layer, and shares concrete patterns (idempotency keys, append-only logs, per-agent roles) to make your systems resilient.
As the tracks named by @AnirudhRowjee suggest, the conference will have :
* Exploratory/survey talks that cut through the noise and unpack emerging database ideas, architectures, and research.
* Production-informed learnings - what worked, what failed, and why.
1/n After much silence, back in action because May is packed with Rootconf (as is June ).
Before we get to anything, here's the big announcement - Rootconf (conference) is back on 29 & 30 May, this time focussing on databases.

Thrilled to announce the publication of our non-conventional stats text, which takes a pure computer-intensive simulation and resampling approach to statistical tests, confidence intervals, power analyses, plus an intro to Bayesian methods at the end.

The 'rewrite it in Rust' debate never really goes away. ClickHouse's take: incremental integration beats wholesale rewrites. clickhou.se/4tqSfEg
This traces how they went from a single BLAKE3 function in 2022 to integrating delta-kernel-rs - including honest lessons about panics, dependency explosion, and cross-compilation.
🦀 Rust India 2026 is over, but the conversations aren’t.

JetBrains was proud to support the stream and help the global Rust community get a seat at the table.
Big thanks to @rvgpl for the photo.
Bengaluru Systems is back with the meet-up on 25 April, this time @Zerodha!
Our speakers include Mithun Chicklore Yogendra from @ParadeDB and Sourav Singh Rawat from @Cloudflare!

See you there!
after some long nights of slide prep, finally slept well post the talk.
thank you @IndiaRust / @hasgeek for putting up the conference, at a great venue and some incredible speakers.
see y’all in the next edition, bigger and better
i’ll be speaking at rust india 2026 on building event-driven systems in rust from first principles.
the talk is about how these systems are typically modelled in prod: streams of events, state handling, persistent logs, back pressure & recovery.
takeaway: rust makes event systems easier to reason about, and its explicit control over memory / concurrency helps make them both efficient and correct.
