As temperatures continue to soar across Gujarat, the Indian Red Cross Gujarat State Branch is helping commuters stay safe and hydrated through a refreshment booth at Gita Mandir Bus Stand in Ahmedabad. Volunteers are distributing refreshing buttermilk drinks to passengers travelling through the busy transport hub, providing much-needed relief from the intense heatwave conditions. Among those benefiting from the initiative was commuter Abe Thomas from Vadodara, who shared his appreciation for the support during his journey. Small acts of kindness can make a big difference during extreme weather. 🚫 Drug Abuse Awareness Session 🚫 To combat the rising menace of drug abuse among youth, the Punjab Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), Gurdaspur organized an impactful Drug Awareness and Prevention Lecture at St. Kabir Public Senior Secondary School, Village Bakhatpur, Gurdaspur. Under the kind guidance and support of S. Shivdular Singh Dhillon, IAS (Retd.), Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch, Chandigarh, the session aimed to educate and inspire students about the harmful effects of drug addiction and the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free life. The expert team from IRCA Gurdaspur — Sh. Raghbir Singh, Mrs. Komalpreet Kaur, and Ms. Abha Sharma — delivered an informative and engaging lecture covering: ✅ Causes and harmful effects of drug abuse ✅ Early warning signs of addiction ✅ Importance of timely intervention and strong support systems The speakers motivated students with a powerful message: “The more you use drugs, the less you will live.” The school management highly appreciated this noble initiative and extended their gratitude to the Red Cross team for spreading awareness among the youth. 🌞🚨 Red Cross Punjab Holds Seminar on Heat Wave Preparedness 🚨🌞 The Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch, Chandigarh organized a seminar on “Heat Wave Preparedness – From Awareness to Action” on 22nd May 2026 at Swami Vivekananda Hall, Red Cross Bhawan, Sector-16-A, Chandigarh. The seminar brought together health professionals, environmental experts, students, and Red Cross volunteers to promote awareness and preparedness against the growing threat of heat waves and climate change. The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Shaina Verma, STS, who emphasized the urgent need to transform awareness into meaningful action. Expert sessions were delivered by distinguished speakers: 🌿 Prof. (Dr.) Simerjit Kaur highlighted the environmental causes of heat waves and climate change. 🏥 Dr. Anamika Soni discussed the medical effects of heat waves and preventive healthcare measures. 🐄 Dr. Jeevan Jot Kaur sensitized participants about protecting animals during extreme heat conditions. ⚠️ Dr. Girish Dogra shared important heat wave precautions and government preparedness measures.
