Sadly, using the shapes of words is being touted as a viable 'research-based' strategy by a recently published phonics program. This MUST stop!
You might want to read up on what we know about how readers read. The idea of reading words by shape was rejected by science decades ago.

Ensuring that *everyone* can read keeps people out of jail, helps people interact powerfully with the wider world and unlocks potential that will otherwise be trapped. It’s life and death and we can’t afford to get it wrong.
