MSV isn't an efficient tool for decoding. Here's a visual we created to explain. Let's say a child is trying to decode DOG. Using MSV, she can rd that word incorrectly many times and never orthographically map the correct word. #scienceofreading#structuredliteracy
“...research says that as readers, we aren’t that diverse. We all process text in pretty much the same way. It makes greater sense to teach someone something they need to learn, rather than teaching them something else hoping they’ll figure it out.”
Giving ALL students access to audiobooks in the classroom can help build a community of learners. Equal access based on interest gives EL learners and Ss w/ rdg disabilities an opportunity to connect w/ classmates. bit.ly/36MWaRO

Every educator and education professor needs to listen to this documentary. Thank you @ehanford & @apmreports for your excellent work. This information is exactly what many of us in the field have been trying to bring into the light for years.
#OklaEd have you listened to @ehanford new podcast? "There is a theory about how people read words--one that's deeply embedded in teaching practices and curriculum materials widely used in elementary school classrooms." Listen NOW: tinyurl.com/y6meh2lj
Seriously cannot get enough of this book! Highlighting & underlining & note taking. Nodding head in agreement. Must read for parents and educators. When we know better we do better!
An important book @FaithBorkowsky Parents and teachers, do you know a child who has been labeled as lazy, anxious, unfocused, or the class clown? Look deeper. Maybe it’s caused by a reading problem.
This links to several short videos by @markseidenberg. Here's a favorite: "Does the reading brain of one person look like the reading brain of another? There aren't multiple ways the brain can be structured to read." #2019readingrevolution#followthescience
This is fantastic! You hit on every salient point. We shared your post on 3 different FB sites. This needs to go viral. When we know better we do better! #FoundationalSkills#2019ReadingRevolution
Phonological awareness and explicit, systematic phonics instruction are the basic necessities of beginning reading instruction. Children cannot comprehend what they can't read #FoundationalSkills#2019ReadingRevolution
Ensuring that *everyone* can read keeps people out of jail, helps people interact powerfully with the wider world and unlocks potential that will otherwise be trapped. It’s life and death and we can’t afford to get it wrong.
