Time for a rethink? There is another way...
The year is 2024 and car dependency is rife Surveys routinely show two-thirds of people want to walk/wheel/cycle more Would proposed routes like this enable you to leave the car at home? @DameSarahStorey @BeeNetwork @SKWalkCycle @StockportMBC #A6ParallelRoute @activetraveleng

What Hyde Road *should* look like vs. what's been done to it Thanks @InfraCGI for the GIF #TGIF

ALT GIF fading between CGI images of Hyde Road as it is now - two lanes of traffic in each direction - and what we'd imagine for it - one lane of traffic each way, with narrow lanes to discourage speeding, a zebra crossing, and cycle lanes separated from the carriageway by trees and bushes.

Wow. I’ve just cycled the length of the #Chorlton cycleway in my lunch break to check on progress and bar the section over the bridge I only saw one cone and one barrier. So good to see the pavements and road free of all the clutter. 🐝 Eric Wright busy working to finish some of the surfacing but almost a clear run. It’s been a really hard and frustrating process and the level of vitriol we’ve had thrown at us as Councillors has been phenomenal. Whilst it may not be perfect, as someone who has cycled this route more days than not for 45 years, I have no doubt that the changes will not just improve lives, but will save lives! Cleaner air and safer, healthier more sustainable travel. And ultimately, as people’s confidence grows in using it, I’ve no doubt it will help reduce congestion and increase footfall for local traders. If not, I’ll eat my cycling hat!

There are nearly four times as many traffic lights per capita in Los Angeles than in Amsterdam. Stop-start movement is the price everyone pays for higher speeds. When most streets are 30 km/h or less, such interventions are rarely needed—allowing everything to flow more freely.

A CGI to show how a modal filter can be a beautiful addition to the local streetscape whilst doing its job of preventing cut through motor traffic and still allowing active travel users to pass through unhindered. 🚲🌳

The next self led view I'm making is unsurprisingly showing a huge 4 lane road reduced to 2 creating space for continuous protected cycle lanes and planting. Support with: patreon.com/infracgi and suggest your own locations for me to look at

Look what they doing to the Ravenhill Road! Oh….I forgot. We’re not allowed nice things because….cars.
A second CGI of Wokingham Rd in Reading. A vast road space wasted on hatching and painted lines. Instead it could have dedicated safe space for cycling with buffer planting and calmer traffic as a result. Before photo by @WhyIsaacDies

These visualizations are so important! Look at what we COULD have 😍 There is space for everything. Cars, trees, cycle lanes, footpaths.... why are we not rapidly building streets like this everywhere. Who is against this??

Really pleased to see 2x CGIs that I recently made for Bonn City Council in Germany are being well received. The layout will be tested in early 2024. Reducing Adenauerallee from 4 car lanes to 2, making space for safe cycling and new loading zones. www-bonn-de.translate.goog/t…
