Two perfectly preserved marble statues from the Roman period have been found near Binyamina, marking what Israeli archaeologists are calling a once-in-a-lifetime discovery. The busts, dating back approximately seventeen hundred years, were found during excavation work for a railway project. One bears a Greek inscription identifying it as Lycurgus. According to excavation director Avishag Reiss, nothing at this level of preservation has been found in the past thirty years. The statues, each weighing sixty kilograms, were mysteriously placed face down in an ancient Roman-Byzantine winepress pit, possibly hidden when marble was being stolen for other purposes.
