This was the actual, official death of Canada. This was the moment we ceased to have any semblance of a country. Don Cherry was a Canadian legend, a household name, someone that every young Canadian grew up watching. He was a professional hockey player, then a coach, but most famously the main personality on Coach's Corner, where he would give commentary on hockey games, mixed in with a few of his own views. He was fired for saying that newcomers to Canada should respect our customs. He spoke brashly and with conviction, as he always did, and he used the phrase "you people" in reference to fresh immigrants, but fundamentally he was fired for trying to enforce adherence to our tradition of honouring our fallen soldiers on Remembrance Day. He suggested that "you people" need to wear poppies as a sign of assimilation, of respect, and of appreciation to the people who sacrificed their lives to build and defend our once great nation. If this man, beloved by so many and for so long, can't ask that Canadian traditions be respected, then no one can. That was the message sent by his firing and humiliation. The government and media wanted all Canadians to know that "we can't expect immigrants to do anything at all when they come here, they must be given free reign to opt out of our society, even as they come here 'for our milk and honey.'" If no one is allowed to defend our culture, then our culture ceases to exist. If we can't hold newcomers to even this most basic standard, wearing a poppy-shaped pin for one day a year, then we can never hope for "assimilation," because there is nothing for anyone to assimilate into. And this is what we have seen since then; newcomers forming their own ethnic enclaves, doing business in their own languages, hiring their own people, bringing their foods and their festivals and their customs with them, never even attempting to understand what Canada is all about. Most don't know a single thing about Canadian history aside from "White people stole the land from natives," and many don't even speak either of our official languages. Why should they? They have their own cultures and enough people to ignore ours. Don Cherry being fired signified the end of any expectation of standards being upheld, and the end of the ability for Canadians to stick up for themselves. Every day since then, multitudes of foreigners have come here, and none of them have ever thought about what it means to be "Canadian," other than to be given a piece of paper from the government. This place and its people have no meaning to them, aside from what we can give them. Unless there are serious changes, and we grow the backbone to stick up for ourselves again, soon, we Canadians will be a minority in our own home, disenfranchised and disempowered, left at the whims of the ungrateful hordes who resent us. This Remembrance Day, wear a poppy with pride, and take note of those who don't. They are not your allies.

Something about this whole interaction seems to encapsulate the modern Canada/US relations very well. Someone with a Star Wars name gloating about how "his country" is better than Canada, and an openly woke Canadian responding with TDS and anti-gun talking points and taking the "American" at face value. I will defend it. As shocking as it might be to people not paying attention the reality is that people do not consider their nation to be negotiable, and the importation of massively disparate peoples at scale poses an existential threat to the continuity of the nation. The political class has thus raised an existential question that must be answered. And they have had their answer. Over and over again for decades. The people voted to retain their nations. But they were overruled by traitorous leaders who have manifested a system where the people are placed at the bottom rung of a racial caste system in their own countries. In other words, the leadership class has declared your nation will be abolished whether you consent or not. That is in effect a genocidal outcome whether the leadership class actually wants that or not. That is the telos of the system as it exists today. And so this is not a point that can be negotiated. There can be no compromise on this point. And because the elite class persists and refuses to change course, violent conflict was made inevitable. These riots are nothing. No one was murdered. These riots are a warning shot. They are an attempt to communicate to a completely tone deaf leadership class that this is not negotiable and their options are to acquiesce or go to war. And if the system's telos is actually an existential question, if we genuinely do believe that to be true, as I do, then this is a completely legitimate casus belli and communicating that with these riots is a necessary escalation. So I will defend what they are doing. It is ugly and brutal and it is objectively better for everyone for the state to acquiesce and allow an orderly resolution to this problem, but if the state will not only make that impossible but continue to exacerbate the issue at every opportunity then conflict is inevitable.

Or a Marvel Adult (Ironically owned by Disney, but this phenomenon refers to a separate but related syndrome to that of the "Disney Adult"), who has to be able to autistically recant the most obscure piece of lore about a super hero you've never heard of (never reads comics btw, they just watch videos on YouTube by people who read comics). Or the Petmom who would neeeever have children but she doesn't need them because she has her furbabies anyways... This mind virus manifests in different forms depending on what its host is susceptible to, but universally it acts as a blanket over the eyes of the infected, disallowing them from seeing reality clearly, and clouding their judgement in favour of focusing all their attention on some niche "hobby" (I use the term loosely, given that there isn't really much input involved in any of these things, aside from monetary) instead of on anything that actually matters. It does affect me, A) because I'm human and so I am susceptible to acquiring this mind virus, so I have to wage constant psychic warfare to fend it off, and B) because great people I know, people with real potential, people who really could do something with their lives, fall victim to this constantly. The temptation to focus on buying things we don't need and wasting money we don't have to fill our empty lives with worthless things grows stronger the more that anyone gives in to it.
