💸 if you work doing something you love, how do you handle the grief of charging for something you would do for free? what about with friends or ppl in your community who wouldn’t buy it but would take the free stuff? how do u maintain professional integrity? what policies?

"By the way, @IntendApp made me realize I should actively plan in terms of values outcomes. Ended up implementing the goals, questions, values in my task system." — a quote from yet another person who tried my app and came out better despite never subscribing
David Krakauer has a framing here I enjoy: cooperative vs. competitive collaborative artifacts. The abacus (and Complice) is "cooperative" bc the user's capacity is expanded even once the artifact's removed. But the GPS is "competitive" because they're left weaker without it.

i've never finished reading christopher alexander's timeless way of being, because every time i read it I end up being inspired to do something. i suppose this is maybe one of the highest compliments i can give a book

[want lists > to-do lists] i never like calling it a "to-do" list, a "task" list my life is not composed of tasks. it's composed of things i want they're goals and wants list, with some specific ideas about how to get them done

one of the big useful shifts for me in last months has been: whenever there’s something i want to do but i’m not doing, i find myself automatically asking “how can i make it more fun?” the shift itself is: my default assumption for why i’m not doing anything has become, “it must not be enjoyable enough” this is a significantly more useful assumption and ime so far a more accurate explanation of what’s going on than the previous assumptions i had through the years the baseline assumption for why i’m not doing something i want to do or know is good for me has changed in gradual, healthier steps: 0/ i’m fundamentally bad ↓ 1/ i’m broken & need to fix myself ↓ 2/ i’m lacking sufficient discipline/willpower ↓ 3/ i just have a procrastination problem and need to solve it ↓ 4/ there’s an emotional bottleneck and i need to do inner work. phew, nothing wrong with me ↓ 4/ the task itself isn’t enjoyable enough* *humans are intelligently designed for efficiency and enjoyment is what drives efficiency. if something isn’t easily happening, it’s my system rightfully and usefully resisting inefficiency. if i find a way to make it more enjoyable, 9/10 if it’s good for me to do the task/activity, i’ll end up doing it in this way, anywhere there’s resistance there’re useful efficiency (enjoyment) gains to be made luckily for me (i assume for most of us, this means that fun and enjoyment have been severely underrated and misunderstood in my life and i can probably spend multiple years finding ways to increase both before the benefits of this approach begins to slow down

do you routinely track, or at least, are aware of, the precise/exact moment that "I could do X" crosses the boundary from hypothetical over to "I will do X"?

me when claude code asks me too many questions about this for which I do not have opinions
barista: Classic blend or arabica? 60yo guy in line before me: When I'm flying in an airplane, the pilot does not ask me how or where he's supposed to fly next. Just take me wherever you think will be best. (5 min later) barista: Do you have our loyalty card to collect points? guy: Please, all I want to do now is pay without getting asked any more questions.

why I find fascinating is the hook of “procrastinated so hard that I did X”, which I bet has a much higher watchtime than “watch me do X” or “here’s how I do X”. most people scrolling are procrastinating and so it frames the act as relatable, something you too might end up doing
I love the creativity in this 😍

I say this phrase to myself probably once or twice a month in my journalling. Today it occurred to me that it's very @tasshinfogleman-flavored. ILUUGTIWI
I love you. You've got this. It's worth it.

I'm done pretending I'm gonna grow @IntendApp. But I'm gonna keep it alive, and I'm open to the possibility that it might thrive more with someone else's energy/leadership.

This is the best metaphor for personal growth I've ever seen You're always moving forward, whether you're trying to or not, but there's no "final destination" to reach You keep arriving in the same place, seemingly relearning the same lessons, but it's not exactly the same The same patterns are repeated endlessly, fractally, at every scale, so you'll see the same themes whether you examine the smallest detail or the largest superstructure of your psyche In the end, all you are is a repeating fractal recursive pattern of information, floating in a larger pattern that is the universe It's not clear where you end and the universe begins
#つぶやきGLSL float i,e,R,s;vec3 q,p,d=vec3(FC.xy/r-vec2(.5,-.3),1);for(q.zy--;i <99.;){o.rgb =hsv(.1,.2,min(e*s,.65-e)/45.);s=1.;p=q =d*e*R*.3;p=vec3(log2(R=length(p))-t*.8,exp2(-p.z/R .9),atan(p.y,p.x)-t*.4);for(e=--p.y;s<3e2;s =s)e =(dot(sin(p.xy*s)-.5,.5-sin(p.zy*s)))/s*.3;}

If you don't know where to keep and track your goals as you approach the new year - I've used @IntendApp the last couple of years and highly recommend either the app or the philosophy in a notebook.

just hit 2025 consecutive days of purposeful actions logged on @IntendApp in celebration: name a date in the last ~5 years* and I'll tell you something I did that day 👀 (*you can try anytime in the last 10 years, it's just patchier before that!) x.com/IntendApp/status/12634…
5/ Some of your most meaningful days may be spent unplugged in the woods, or so stoked about a project you're working on that any to-do list would only slow you down that day. Complice needs to incentivize reflecting on those days later, not pulling yourself out of flow states.
