At just 13 years old, Alena Analeigh McQuarter made history as the youngest Black student ever accepted into a U.S. medical school.

Viola Fletcher, the last living witness of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, has passed away at 111. Her legacy of strength and survival will never be forgotten. 🕊️🙏🏾

Nas inspired his second cousin Yara Shahidi to attend Harvard. When he launched a hip-hop fellowship there, he urged Yara to visit campus. She did and enrolled on her own merit, graduating from Harvard. (Yara, star of Black-ish and Grown-ish, was even the flower girl at Nas’s wedding.) “He has such a deep passion for our culture and for education,” she said. Hip-hop royalty quietly shaping the next generation.

Kenneth Bullock, a 44-year-old Black man from Detroit, Michigan, walked free after spending over a decade behind bars for a carjacking he did NOT commit. In 2011, a woman reported her Dodge Charger stolen at gunpoint. Bullock was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to 30-70 years in prison. He maintained his innocence the entire time. This year, another man already in prison for murder confessed to the crime. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Conviction Integrity Unit reviewed the case, and on May 28, 2025, all charges were dismissed. Kenneth is finally home with his family.
