Yesterday, the Irish government outlined the three priorities for Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union which starts on July 1, 2026 for six months: Competitiveness, Values, Security.
On 1 July, Ireland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the 8th time. In an uncertain world, our strength is reinforced when we stand together. In Ireland, the seanfhocal or proverb “Ní neart go cur le chéile” reminds us that we have “Strength with unity”.

In today's Irish Times, @MatthewOToole2 leader of the Opposition in the Northern Ireland Assembly writes that 'talking about the future is a more productive route to reconciliation than dwelling on our past'.
Building a new Ireland doesn't have to be about flags or emblems or the past. It can be the radical and inspiring project we needed to counter disillusionment and extremism. My piece for today's @IrishTimes irishtimes.com/opinion/2026/…

On May 26, 1647, the #Massachusetts General Court officially passed a law banning Catholic Jesuit priests from the Bay Colony. This anti-Catholic sentiment, based on Puritan ideology, lasted for centuries in #Boston. irishboston.blogspot.com/202…
