Reminder that there’s a lot of homeless grandma and grandpas who need affordable housing. We don’t notice them because they’re generally minding their own business. But older adults are one of the fastest growing demographics of homelessness.
Noticing that much of the opposition around land value taxes comes down to "You want to kick grandma and grandpa out of their homes!" Please be serious. Ya'll are catastrophizing. I want the groundwork laid to create more and better housing options for Grandma and Grandpa. That groundwork includes legalizing dense housing and legalizing split tax rates between property and land. This will, over time, increase the supply of affordable housing, creating better housing options for seniors while lowering housing costs for elder care workers at the same time.

Friday was a beautiful day to celebrate the opening of new affordable homes at Nueva Esperanza, a 150-unit apartment community in Hillsboro. Nueva Esperanza was designed to serve diverse residents, and Latinx and Somali communities, among others, helped shape many of its features. Nueva Esperanza's construction was paid for in part by Metro's affordable housing bond and developed through a partnership with @bienestaror and Housing Development Center. #MetroHousing

Starting yesterday, any commercial building within the urban growth boundary of an Oregon city of 10k can convert from commercial to residential use (& with no additional parking mandate). Less revolutionary than some states did, but small towns might be an underrated use here
