I’m gonna comment on this for a second time today. Shows like Little Bear, Blue’s Clues, etc need to make a comeback. They had deliberate pauses and incorporated space. We need to get our nervous systems in check again, and get our attention spans back. We need to cultivate more empty SPACE in our lives

Louisiana is one of the few states with a very accessible, easy to use legislative website. The learning curve is not high at all and allows the citizenry to easily look up laws, bills and their statuses, and familiarize oneself with their respective representatives and senators

One thing they don't tell you about the “push a button for a million dollars but someone you don't know dıės” hypothetical is that literally every billionaire is effectively pressing that button as much as they can all the time just because that's how exploitation works

People had a very clear idea what they *wanted* this movie to be about and then couldn't handle that it was a story about the absurdity of war photography that specifically chose the American setting because Western society has become so desensitized to War in the Middle East.

Jeff Landry is celebrating data centers and power plants as economic development. Here is what comes next that he is not telling you. Three new gas power plants being built just to power Meta’s data center. The cost to build is passed on to customers across the state. NOT the trillion dollar company building it. Those plants produce massive CO2 and they are using this as an excuse to build CCS pipelines and injection wells. Those pipelines require eminent domain. Louisiana landowners lose property rights whether they agree or not. Companies collect 45Q federal tax credits — your tax dollars — to make it profitable. After a few years the companies are able to leave. Louisiana taxpayers carry the cost and permanent liability underground forever. Coincidentally, Julia Letlow’s fiance Kevin Ainsworth lobbies for CCS companies collecting the 45Q credits. Jean-Paul Coussan fast-tracked the power plant permitting at the PSC. No competitive bidding. No public input. Meta builds servers. Entergy builds gas plants. CCS companies take Louisiana land to bury the waste. Ainsworth lobbies for the companies profiting from it. Letlow controls the federal money funding it. Game changer for whom. Economic boom for whom. This is happening across the state. How are we winning here.

Jeff Landry is calling this an economic boom. How exactly? Honest question. . Meta pays 1% sales tax. Louisiana’s normal rate is 9.56% . 20-year tax exemption on equipment . 80% property tax abatement once built . Entergy building three new gas plants to power it. Cost goes to your electric bill. Not Meta’s. . Landry removed the job creation requirement by executive order . No local hiring requirement . 500 jobs. Maybe. Part time workers count. . Teacher bonus is one time. Funded by construction sales tax. Temporary by the parish’s own admission. . Home prices up 63% in one year . 25% of Richland Parish lives below the poverty line . Louisiana ratepayers absorb the cost of three new gas power plants built just for Meta . Data centers across the country have contaminated wells and soil. We are not immune. Julia Letlow calls this a game changer. Her fiancé lobbies for Amazon and CCS companies. More on that in another post. Game changer for whom. Economic boom for whom. This is happening across the state. Louisiana landowners. Louisiana ratepayers. Louisiana taxpayers. How are we winning here.

I don't think any scene of a movie ever captured the feeling of modernity colliding with the romanticism of the youthful human soul like this one. "Can't be done, nothing ever happens, nothing you can do" has been the mantra most of us were raised on.
