THREAD: It's my bday today. There is no living happily any day during a time of genocide. I entered my thirties with clarity: there are no more masks in this country. A year of anguish & failed solidarity led me to write this essay. May it re/orient help make some of you braver

.@MomodouTaal is my hero. A Black student at Cornell who has acted with dignity and courage no matter how much the forces of racism and war have come for him. I am grateful to him for reminding me “There will never come a time where I say to myself that I went too hard for Gaza.”

Hauʻoli Lā Hānau Aunty Haunani. I know that if you were still with us you would be rightfully critical of all our Pasifika ppl/nations cozied up next to Israel, the U.S. & their genocidal agenda. You wrote of Palestinian liberation as indigenous sovereignty. You want(ed) us free.
“We are not American. We are not American. We are not American. Say it in your hearts. Say it in your sleep. We are not American. We will die as Hawaiians. We will never be Americans.” —Haunani-Kay Trask Oct 3, 1949 - July 3, 2021 💔✊🏽🌊

Too often folks like Marcellus Williams turn into a political talking point. But I want people to remember, he has a family. He has people who love him. The person in this video is Marcellus Williams’s son. In this short clip you are reminded that the death penalty doesn’t just destroy the person being legally lynched, it destroys an entire family. No one should ever be forced into a position of finding peace with the execution of their loved ones…especially when there’s no actual evidence that they committed the crime in which they’re being murdered for.
