This is the correct way to respond to mistakes. They will happen at these long high stakes events; acting gracefully and professionally is what we need more of at competitive events. We take note, apologize, and try to do better next time. 🙏
To clarify what happened on stream:
I played Turn to Dust (slow speed spell) during a showdown to buff my Ravenbloom Student, which is not a legal play.
First, I want to apologize to my opponent. This mistake mattered and gave me an advantage, regardless of the outcome of the match (I lost).
We were both trying to play fast, as there were only a few minutes left in game 3. In the middle of deciding what to grab from my Stacked Deck, my opponent asked if I could speed up.
I got flustered worrying that I was taking too long, and I ended up playing TTD during the showdown… I mixed up the play speed with Acceptable Losses, which was my main board gear hate, and what I was used to playing in most my games instead of TTD.
Ultimately, I rushed through my play, and because the situation was very tense and fast-paced, none of us at the table caught it.
I'm just really sorry (and frankly embarrassed)… I’ve always sought to play at the highest level and this isn’t where I want to be at. I’m still figuring out how to be a top competitor while working full-time and making YT content. I haven't had enough reps recently, which resulted in a very amateurish showing. I'll make sure this doesn’t happen again and will do better in Hartford.
Sorry everyone :(
