Only one chance in this lifetime…
Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him.
I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.
"Welcome to my old neighborhood." Our @NASAArtemis II astronauts woke up on the sixth day of their mission to a special message recorded in 2025 by astronaut Jim Lovell, the pilot of Apollo 8.
Education is a long-term job.
Our impact is long-term. The results are long-term.
We may see a student’s finished project, but our students are never a finished product.
"As a result of what you've done, the world has never been closer together before."
Richard Nixon welcomed the crew of Apollo 11 after they splashed down in the Pacific Ocean #OTD in 1969, marking the successful completion of one of humanity's greatest feats.
ALT United States President Richard M. Nixon speaks to the Apollo 11 astronauts through a window on the Mobile Quarantine Facility (MQF) aboard the USS Hornet, prime recovery ship for the historic Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. The astronauts in the MQF are (left to right) Neil A. Armstrong, commander; Michael Collins, command module pilot; and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., lunar module pilot. Apollo 11 splashed down at 11:49 a.m. (CDT), July 24, 1969, about 812 nautical miles southwest of Hawaii and only 12 nautical miles from the USS Hornet. Photo credit: NASA
Another fine example of what can happen when teachers create an environment in their classroom that encourages students to explore their interests & passions. Was pleased to hear he's a Science Olympian! Keep after it young Man!

American Science & Surplus is a one of a kind specialty store with a cult following. They have two stores in Illinois & one near Milwaukee. Heartbroken to hear they are on the brink. Please consider helping them out.

"Oh my God! Look at that picture over there! There's the Earth coming up. Wow, that's pretty."
On Christmas Eve in 1968, the crew of Apollo 8 caught sight of a view no human had laid their eyes on before. Astronaut Bill Anders captured it in the iconic “Earthrise” photo.
ALT The Earthrise photo taken by Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders on December 24, 1968, shows the Moon's surface in the foreground with the Earth appearing above the horizon in the distance in the blackness of space. About 2/3 of the Earth is lit from by the Sun and you can see the ocean, clouds, and a continent on the lit portion.
A moment of science. Here we go again.... From this afternoon's ISS flyover of the Gulf of Mexico. Amazing video images of Hurricane Milton. Currently a Category 5 storm with winds greater than 156mph. Stay safe Florida Friends!

The Space Race was initiated today, 67 years ago with the Soviet Union’s launch of Sputnik I – the first manmade satellite into orbit. It certainly seems like a humble device now – weighing only 184 pounds and only transmitting a radio signal beep – but the gravity of this event was enormous at the time. As the start of October also brings World Space Week, one not only reflects on the defining events of human activity in space like Sputnik, but what awaits us ahead. I’m looking forward to it! #WSW2024
ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, 1776: A fair copy of the committee draft of the Declaration of Independence was read in Congress. Congress then debated and revised the document.

@NASA has an “oldie but a goodie” picture up today – David Scott’s spacewalk on Apollo 9, which took place 55 years ago this week. Apollo 9 was important because it was the first complete flight of the entire Apollo spacecraft as one platform and vital to proving the flight capabilities of the Lunar Module, to include rendezvous and docking with the Command Service Module. A great shot taken by Rusty Schweickart!
